Job Description

Salary range: $22-$24/hour annually depending on qualifications

Objectives:
This position is required to work within the framework of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul's mission and thrift store's objectives. It is the Store Manager's responsibility to generate optimum sales volume and profit.

Key Responsibilities:
- Establishes daily sales objectives and works toward their achievement.
- Communicates the sales objectives to store personnel, exercising skills to achievement.
- Assist neighbors in need with policies and procedures established by the local District Council.
- Responsible for all cash management in accordance with SVDP policy in regards to bank deposits, daily receipts, and the preparation of cash register, etc.
- Responsible for daily control of all manageable expenses.
- Conducts performance reviews at regular intervals with all full and part-time employees. Responsible for hiring the right staff to maintain the store.
- Conducts periodic store meetings to inform and communicate store goals and concerns to store personnel.
- Monitors customer service to ensure a sincere, warm and friendly atmosphere.
- Displays merchandise in an appropriate and timely manner to generate sales, continually altering displays so that maximum exposure of merchandise can be attained. Promotes specific items by utilizing feature display areas and verbally suggestive selling.
- Recommends special sales promotions centered on local occasions and special events and coordinates its implementation with the Manager of Stores Support.
- Monitors the receiving and pricing of merchandise to ensure all merchandise is properly accounted for, and that merchandise is properly priced, ticketed and displayed.
- Directs all court workers and volunteers.
- Maintains awareness of SVdP membership and conference needs filled at the store level, and assures a warm and friendly atmosphere exists with all store personnel and volunteers helping conferences.
- Maintains an awareness of local consumer needs/desires and communicates to them.
- Ensures the telephone is answered in an efficient and courteous manner offering assistance to the caller as needed.
- Conducts comparison shopping of stores in the general area and reviews competition with Manager of Stores Support.

Key Responsibilities, continued:
- Trains all store personnel in accordance with personnel policies, store policies and job descriptions.
- Ensures all employee/volunteer discounts are given in accordance with SVDP policy.
- Performs other related duties assigned by the Manager of Stores Support.
- Maintain confidentiality about any proprietary data and privileged information concerning SVdP, its staff, members, volunteers, entities and programs.

Key Competencies of the Position:
- Basic merchandising principles and supervisory skills.
- Computer skills knowledge
- Valid Driver's License
- Reliable transportation is required
- Efficient/effective communication
- Flexibility/adaptability to a variety of assignments

Skills, Knowledge and Experience Requirements:
- A high school or GED equivalent is preferred. A college degree in business administration, accounting and additional experience in merchandising and sales is a plus.
- 5-10 years' experience
- Progressively responsible merchandising experience and basic skills in personnel supervision. Thrift store experience is preferred.
- Learn, apply, and interpret policies related to the operation of the thrift stores.
- Communicate effectively with staff, members of the SVDP, and the general public.
- Deal effectively and openly with staff, achieving results through positive human relationships.
- Write required reports in an intelligible manner.
- Maintain accurate accounting of all financial transactions.
- Price merchandise according to current rates and economic demands.
- Knowledge of POS system and reports

Accountability:
- Adheres to policies and procedures of the Society and all pertinent legal regulations.
- Participates in annual self-evaluation and performance review.
