COORDINATOR OF MUSIC/LITURGY
ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH

Position Title: Coordinator of Music/Liturgy
Hourly: Negotiated;
FLSA Classification: Nonexempt
Reports to: Pastor

Job Summary:
The Coordinator of Music/Liturgy is an integral member of the parish staff who assists the pastor in his responsibility as primary liturgist.

The Coordinator provides leadership, expertise, and pastoral sensitivity in the planning and execution of parish music in liturgies in accordance with the Catholic Church, Archdiocesan policies and guidelines.

The Coordinator oversees and develops the parish liturgical music, the musicians, and fosters the active musical participation of the assembly.

Qualifications/Requirements
-Knowledge of and support for official Church teachings, including knowledge of the Catholic Church liturgy, norms and laws
-Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Liturgical Music or a related field
-Has experience working in parish ministry
-Skilled in voice, piano and/or organ
-Experience in directing a choir and leading musical rehearsals
-Excellent organizational skills
-Experience working with a variety of age groups
-Versatility and knowledge in a variety of musical styles within worship
-Familiarity with database and/or online software systems

Duties/Responsibilities
-Plan music for weekend and Holy Day Masses throughout the liturgical year
-Schedule and assign cantors, choirs and pianists for each Mass throughout the year
-Collaborates with accompanists/cantors/instrumentalists for weekend Masses
-Accompany for weekend Masses on a frequent basis
-Coordinate, train, recruit and communicate regularly with liturgical music ministers including accompanists, cantors/singers, and instrumentalists
-Prepares music number boards for weekend Masses and as needed
-Assists, coordinate and plan music for sacramental liturgies (First
Reconciliation, First Eucharist, Confirmation. Anointing of the Sick)
-Directs Celebration Choir and collaborates with Glory Choir
-Coordinates and/or Directs newly formed Pius Praise Choirs (Youth Choirs for Middle and High School)
-Directs Youth Christmas Eve Choir or assigns Director(s)
-Directs/organizes Resurrection Choir for Funerals
-Oversees additional choirs and directors within the Music Ministry team
-Collaborates with/implements recommendations from the Liturgy Commission
-Works with Pastoral Associate to coordinate funeral music
-Assists engaged couples in planning their wedding music
-Collaborates with parish Environment and Art Committee
-Collaborates with Director of Faith Formation for OCIA Rites
-Coordinate/plan/schedule the music/accompanists/cantors for seasonal Morning/Evening Prayer in Advent and Lent and other prayer services as needed
-Keeps music files organized and up to date
-Ensures copyright laws are followed by noting usage on One License
-Provides for the on-going formation of musicians
-Supervises sacristan/church needs with Coordinator of Liturgy
-Continue to create new ways for parishioners to become involved in Music Ministry
-Maintains budget for the worship and liturgical music life of the parish
-Flexible weekend schedule for Mass duties
