Job Description
The Director of Hispanic Ministry is a key member of the Pastor's Leadership Team (PLT) and collaborates with the Pastor and Hispanic Ministry Staff Members in the areas of evangelization, discipleship, faith formation, sacramental preparation, ministry development, worship, and social outreach, including activities and events associated with these areas.The Director of Hispanic Ministry supervises the members of the Hispanic Ministry Office and meets regularly with them both individually and collectively. The Director of Hispanic Ministry convenes the quarterly meetings of the Equipo Pastoral in order to discuss, coordinate and plan the events and ministries within Hispanic Ministry in the parish community.
Key responsibilities
1. Directing
a. Leads and develops leadership skills among staff to create and administer their respective faith formation programs, and liturgy and worship ministries.
b. Convenes and coordinates the quarterly meetings of the Equipo Pastoral (Hispanic Ministry Leaders) and arranges for an annual retreat for the leaders.
c. Under the direction of the Pastor, partners with and serves as the primary point of contact with the McGrath Institute for Church Life.
d. Works with the Hispanic Faith Formation Coordinator and Hispanic Liturgy Coordinator recruitment, selection and training of catechists and other volunteers working within the Faith Formation and Liturgy and Worship programs, and cultural programs.
e. Collaborates with the Hispanic Faith Formation Coordinator and Hispanic Liturgy Coordinator to provide the bilingual formation programs for children, youth, and adults preparing to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, First Holy Communion, and Confirmation. This includes supervision of students preparing to receive sacraments at St. Michael School in conjunction with School Administration and their classroom teachers, as well as OCIA for children, adults, and families, as well as Intermediate Sacramental Preparation (ISP) for children who have not yet received one or more of the sacraments of initiation at the prescribed age.
f. Aids in resolving disciplinary issues and making recommendations to the Pastor and Director of Faith Formation on students' preparedness for the reception of sacraments.
g. Oversees the Emmaus Retreat Groups and various prayer groups, providing guidance and direction in keeping with Diocesan guidelines.
h. Collaborates with the Associate Director of Adult Evangelization and Formation to ensure that adult evangelization and faith formation programs uphold the mission of the parish, including with the Evangelical Catholic/Reach More program.
i. Collaborates with the parish Marketing and Digital Evangelization Coordinator on all communications, including the parish website, social media, bulletins, and newsletters.
2. Program Development and Curricula Selection
In collaboration with the Hispanic Ministry Faith Formation Coordinator:
a. Selects curricula, sets calendars, and plans events and activities (retreats, workshops, trips, etc.) for sacramental preparation.
b. Facilitates, evaluates, and approves curricula, events and activities for the staff and programs under their supervision.
c. Forms and equips parents to fulfill their role as the primary educators of their children.
d. Collaborates with the Associate Director of Adult Evangelization and Formation to discern which programs best meet the needs of the adult Hispanic community.
3. Liturgical and Cultural Celebrations
a. Provides direction to the Hispanic Liturgy Coordinator.
b. Oversees the Sacrament of Matrimony preparations in collaboration with the marriage preparation leader of Hispanic Ministry and the Associate Director of Family Life.
c. Oversees and coordinates staff and volunteers involved with providing cultural formation experiences for the Hispanic community, such as an All Souls altar, Our Lady of Guadalupe celebration and devotional altar, and Las Posadas family activities.
4. Administration
a. Develops annual budgets and oversees expenditures for the Hispanic ministry budgets.
b. Ensures that all sacramental preparation paperwork is received from students, and that those responsible for sacramental records receive paperwork necessary for recording.
c. Ensures that all volunteers have received proper Safe Environment Training and certification and maintain recertification.
d. Training and Diocesan-wide activities
e. Attends ministry and formation, Raleigh Deanery, and diocesan meetings, as requested.
Qualifications
• The Director of Hispanic Ministry must be an active, fully initiated and practicing Catholic who is committed to Intentional Discipleship.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in theology, catechesis, or related field or equivalent experience.
• The ideal candidate is fluent in English and Spanish.
• Candidate should have strong abilities in project management, supervision of others, is collaborative and have exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Candidate should have skills in MS Office, using A/V equipment and ability to become competent with the parish's Realm database software.
