Director of Evangelization and Outreach

Job Description

Position Summary
The Coordinator of Evangelization & Outreach supports and assists the Pastor in developing and organizing Evangelization Efforts and Outreach Ministries and Events for the parish. This includes using Evangelization efforts to invite and encourage members of the community to become more engaged in ministry as well as inviting the unengaged to participate more fully in the parish. This position also includes overseeing current outreach ministries as well as creating new outreach efforts both at the parish and in the community. The Coordinator of Evangelization & Outreach ensures that all formation and events are consistent with the parish's mission, goals and values are executed in a manner that is compliant with parish and Archdiocesan policies and procedures. All responsibilities are to be performed in a spirit of Christian service. This position reports to the Pastor.

Overall Duties and Responsibilities
• With a missionary spirit, foster a climate of Christian life, teamwork and efficiency within the Parish Office and with parishioners.
• Works closely with the Director of Parish Operations regarding budgetary and logistical aspects of programs and events.
• Participates in Parish Staff meetings and other meetings at the Vicariate/council level as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

EVANGELIZATION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator is responsible for cultivating a spirit of engagement and welcoming at the parish.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with the pastor in creating a vision and long-range plan for evangelization in the parish.
• Implements evangelization efforts at all levels of the parish leadership structure
• Helps ministry heads in coordinating more active participation.
• Cultivates a spirit of evangelization and welcoming for the entire parish.
• Tasked with new parishioner registration and subsequent outreach
• Organizes Welcoming events for New Parishioners.
• Runs ALPHA or similar soft entry point sessions and events

OUTREACH RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator is responsible for aiding ministries and organizing and implementing efforts to help those both within and outside our community.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Cultivates awareness and solidarity with the poor, suffering and marginalized.
• Creates, designs and implements outreach opportunities at the parish.
• Creates, designs and implements outreach opportunities in the community and fosters connections with social agencies.
• Connects with, supports, and coordinates parish outreach ministries.
• Serve as staff liaison to the Outreach Commission.
• Serve as staff liaison to St. Mary's St. Vincent DePaul Conference.
• Helps in coordinating funerals and bereavement ministers.
• Coordinates Ministers of Care.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Have the necessary training, education and background in evangelization and outreach efforts
• Prior experience in evangelization is preferred
• Experience organizing and executing events
• Must be an effective communicator and team player
• Managerial skills
• Ability to schedule, prioritize and produce work in a timely manner
• Initiative and self-direction
• High level of discretion and integrity
• Able to work at regular evening classes and weekends when necessary
• Passionate disciple of Jesus Christ who is a practicing Catholic.
• Understanding, respect and support of the Catholic Church's teaching, mission and values, including the Church's social teaching.

REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERENCES

Education Required: Associate's Degree
Education Preferred: Bachelor's Degree
Experience Required: 3 years of experience in Evangelization and/or Outreach
Experience Preferred: Church experience with outreach ministries
Skills Required: Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills, specifically Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent verbal, written and multi-tasking skills. Excellent problem-solving skills with emphasis on detail and accuracy.
