POSITION SUMMARY:
University of Mary Washington - Fredericksburg, VA
The mission of the University of Mary Washington Campus Ministry is to promote, encourage, and engage all aspects of faith life on campus. The Campus Ministry coordinates masses, spiritual activities, and programs that seek to bring students, faculty, and staff into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ and His Church.
The Associate Campus Minister assists the Chaplain in maintaining a vibrant Catholic community that helps students grow in their faith while at college and prepares them to live out the faith in parish life after they graduate. The ministry strives to do this through fostering an atmosphere of prayer, including frequent reception of the sacraments, establishing an authentic community, and training students to use their gifts in the apostolate.
The Associate Campus Minister assists the Chaplain by overseeing many of the programs and events that the students help in executing such as: the daily activities pertaining to the planning and executing of weekly programs, assisting in training the Cabinet of Catholic Leaders (our student leadership board) in professional development, and coordinating outreach events and service trips while assisting with the other business needs of the ministry.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
• Manage food and supplies budget under direction of the Chaplain.
• Oversee the student leadership team of 15+ students; assist them to develop in leadership and professional development skills; plan leadership workshops.
• Participate in the pastoral counseling of students; encourage students to expand their faith through service in the liturgy, participation in community service opportunities, joining leadership committees, and helping with additional outreach efforts to evangelize the students on campus.
• Help students to strengthen their faith by encouraging participation in Daily Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, frequent reception of the sacrament of Confession and providing opportunities for personal prayer, reflection, and discernment. Facilitate and promote faith formation opportunities such as discernment groups, campus Bible studies, and similar activities throughout the year. This includes assisting with the instruction of students in RCIA and organizing spiritually-filled freshmen and upperclassmen retreats.
• Oversee weekly and monthly programs and coordinate off campus trips such as the week-long end-of-the-year service trip.
• Plan and oversee student Bible studies.
• Book outside speakers for Bible studies, Supper Social, special events, and workshops.
• Oversee print and digital communication material, including the campus ministry newsletter and content management and design for the website umwcatholic.org.
• Assist with the business needs of the ministry by preparing reports containing statistical data for the Diocese, assisting in the hiring and overseeing of the student intern, organization of program materials, and maintenance of the client database.
• Maintain and continue to grow an active alumni, volunteer, and donor network to supplement diocesan income and support program needs. This includes helping to grow donor relations with local restaurants and overseeing a network of volunteers to cook for weekly and large special events that feed 60-100 people.

While performing the duties of this job, required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weight of 10 - 50 pounds.
Work performed in and out of the office setting.
Required to travel, including locations throughout the diocese and, infrequently, other parts of the country or other countries.
Frequent evening and/or weekend work is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Critical Success Factors: At least 2-3 years post undergraduate work experience. Demonstrated ability to provide current, direct, complete and actionable positive and corrective feedback. Ability to take the initiative and work with a sense of urgency.
• General Requirements: Strong, practicing Roman Catholic who lives out the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Strong commitment to evangelization and respect for other faiths. Must have a high level of integrity, ethics, and professionalism. Must be highly organized and detailed oriented. Must be self-motivated, willing to take personal initiative, and able to work in a fast paced environment, both independently and with a team. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to assist in cooking and oversee students in the kitchen. Ability to drive a 12 passenger van. Strong interpersonal skills. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google Drive, particularly google forms and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite (CS5 or higher).
• Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. A Master's degree is preferred.
• Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver's license must be maintained at all times. Must be certified or willing to complete Virtus training.
• Years and Types of Experience: Three to five years related experience, which includes managing volunteers, along with event planning and overseeing programs that involve collaboration of multiple people. Active membership in a faith community of the Roman Catholic Church in the Arlington diocese required. Evangelization and fundraising experience a plus.
