Job Description
The Catholic Campus Ministry at Virginia Tech has an opening for a non-exempt full time (40 hours a week) Associate Director of Catholic Campus Ministry position. The position will report directly to the Director of Catholic Campus Ministry.Brief Description:
The Associate Director of Catholic Campus Ministry support the various aspects of ministering to students at Virginia Tech. Their role includes helping to oversee the general ministry as well as directing and overseeing some specific aspects of the ministry, including community events, formation and OCIA, as well as some aspects of the Development ministry. Roughly 75% of the time will be spent doing Campus Ministry and 25% of the time doing Development. They will work closely with the Director to plan for and implement a comprehensive campus ministry program.
Main Responsibilities:
•Work with student leadership and oversee all social and community events, including Sunday Supper program.
•Work with student leadership and oversee all aspects of the formation program.
•Work with the Chaplain to oversee and direct OCIA ministry.
•Coordinate a number of aspects of the development ministry, including the following:
o Direct Thank-a-thon
o Make Donor thank you calls
o Oversee Post card ministry
•Assist with development social media
•Coordinate with other staff members on social media presence
•Meet regularly with students to provide spiritual encouragement and leadership training
•Serve as a liaison with related ministries, including Knights of Columbus and Students for Life
•Assist in various weekend and overnight ministry events including retreats, weekly liturgy coordination, Summit, Alternative Spring Break trips, and Holy Week liturgies
Knowledge/Skills:
•Practicing Catholic in good standing
•Thorough knowledge of Church teachings and theology with the ability to relate that knowledge to young adults in a campus ministry setting
•Familiar with relevant church documents pertaining to ministry and evangelization.
•Knowledge of adolescent and young adult development, spiritual development and application
•Exceptional people skills
•Ability to empathize with others
•Self-motivated, works easily alone or with others
•Ability to maintain confidentiality
•Ability to interact with faculty and staff at a peer academic level
•Strong computer and digital communication skills
Education Required: A minimum of a bachelor's degree. A field related to theology or pastoral ministry is preferred.
3-5 years of prior experience in pastoral work, preferably campus ministry.
Working Conditions:
This is a full-time (40 hours per week), exempt, professional ministry position. This position is an in-person position not eligible for regular teleworking. Night and weekend work is necessary primarily during the academic year. The position also requires travel to campus ministers' meetings and other diocesan events, reimbursable through the approved budget. The Director will work regularly with the Diocesan Associate Director of the Office for Evangelization, faculty, staff and students of Virginia Tech as well as other Diocesan Campus Ministers.
