Job Description
The Director of Youth and Young Adult and Pastoral Juvenil is responsible for fostering the faith formation and spiritual growth of youth and young adults within the Diocese of Knoxville. The Director of Youth and Young Adult and Pastoral Juvenil will develop and implement a diocesan-wide vision and strategy for youth and young adult ministry, aligning with the USCCB's goals of empowering young people as disciples, engaging them in the Church, and fostering their personal and spiritual growth. Provide diocesan wide leadership, vision and advocacy for comprehensive, parish-based ministry in the diocese and oversee the range of services including consultation and services to parish leadership, youth & young adult coordinators and volunteer youth & young adult ministers.Essential Functions
To connect youth and young adults with Jesus Christ through spiritual formation/direction, religious
education/formation, and vocational discernment.
To connect youth and young adults to the Church through evangelizing outreach, formation of the faith community, and pastoral care.
To connect youth and young adults with the mission of the Church in the world through forming a Christian conscience, educating and developing leaders for the present and future.
To connect youth and young adults with a peer community through developing peer leadership and identifying a youth and young adult team for the purpose of forming faith communities of peers.
To achieve the goals and objectives of the USCCB and the Diocese of Knoxville for youth and young adults.
To provide support to pastors and their staff, deanery youth and young adult coordinators and other diocesan offices in carrying out their responsibilities to meet the pastoral needs, and/or mentoring the young church.
To initiate, facilitate, develop and maintain various diocesan youth and young adult programs in collaboration with the Office of Hispanic Ministry.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Assess the effectiveness of youth and young adult ministry programs and initiatives, gather data, and adjust to ensure alignment with diocesan goals and the needs of the youth and young adults.
Provide direction, consultation, training, formation and general support to deanery coordinators and parishes seeking to develop or enhance comprehensive youth or young adult ministry.
Convene deanery and parish coordinators of youth ministry for training and program planning.
Foster and achieve the goals and objectives of USCCB and the Diocese of Knoxville for youth and young adults.
Plan and implement diocesan events that may include conventions, retreats, training, institutes and conferences.
Coordinate diocesan delegations to national or international events or pilgrimages.
Collaborate with other dioceses in providing inter-diocesan events and trainings that may include Regional Certification for Youth and Young Adult Pastoral Agents, National Certification, training for Catechetical and Youth/Young Adult Ministry Leaders.
Act as diocesan liaison to regional, national and other Catholic youth and young adult organizations and attend regional and national conferences and meetings when possible.
Maintain and provide information and reports to the Director of Christian Formation and the Bishop.
Develop the long-range plan and vision for youth and young adult ministry for the Diocese of Knoxville through ongoing evaluation of current programs and Pastoral Plan.
Supervise the administrative assistant for Youth and Young Adult Ministry and the Deanery Coordinators of Youth and Young Adult Ministry.
Certify youth and young adult coordinators at Diocesan level and maintain records
Collaborate with other diocesan offices and staff in planning common projects.
Maintain resource library.
Perform other duties as may be assigned.
Qualifications
Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing
Must have a Bachelor's degree in Liberal Arts, Theology of Pastoral Ministry and /or six years of Youth and Young Adult ministry experience.
Knowledge of Catholic teachings, catechesis and documents on youth and young adult ministry.
Proficient in English and Spanish languages (or desire to complete Spanish immersion program).
Experience with and ability to develop and facilitate workshops trainings and presentations to both English speaking and Hispanic youth and young adult leaders.
Ability to read and understand church documents, guidelines and professional journals.
Ability to understand and explain policies and answer questions.
Ability to evaluate presentations and offer constructive feedback.
Proficient with Microsoft Office.
Must possess working skills of a dynamic social media environment.
Must be able to pass a background check successfully.
Must be willing to travel to different locations in the diocese and for events that may be outside the diocese.
Personal and professional references are required.
Physical Demands
Must be able to transport materials and equipment (up to 30 pounds) to and from various locations and to set up meeting or event spaces.
Regularly required to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
Must be able to use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects, speak and hear.
