Job Description

Qualifications: Practicing Catholic with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, a love for the Catholic faith, a Catholic worldview, a passion for sharing the faith with others, management skills, and organizational; bachelor's degree in management, administration, communications, or related field. Understands, supports and articulates the Catholic faith as taught by the Church. Must have excellent organizational, communications, and leadership skills, and ability to relate well to college students, faculty, alumni, and benefactors.

The Newman Center Director of Operations' primary goal is to maintain the physical building, campus, and facilities. Additionally, the Director maintains the activities calendar for Chaplain, FOCUS, and Newman Center Club events.

Terms of Employment: Full time/Director/Exempt/Background Check/Safe Environment Training

Job Function: To direct and oversee management of operations at the Newman Center.

Performance Responsibilities:

1. Coordination of Newman Center Activities, Events, and Programs:

Collaborate with Newman Center Chaplain to support scheduling and use of facilities for pastoral programming.
Collaborate with FOCUS missionaries and support their pastoral ministry and outreach.
Support and encourage the Newman Club student officers.
Promote Newman Center activities and opportunities to students on the campuses of higher education in Rapid City.

2. Coordination of Newman Center Facilities and Maintenance:

Collaborate with Cathedral Parish Administrator regarding maintenance, upkeep, and capital improvements.
Oversee and maintain security and fire safety of the facility, grounds, and parking lot.

3. Collaboration with the Newman Center Advisory Committee in accordance with the Constitution of the Committee.

Schedule Newman Center Advisory Committee meetings.
In collaboration with Newman Center Advisory Committee Chair, create, publish, and distribute agenda for Newman Center Advisory Committee meetings.
Prepare materials as needed for Advisory Committee Members.
Participate in Advisory Committee Meetings: "Director of Operations' Report."

4. Preparation of an Annual Budget
In collaboration with the Newman Center Director of Development, prepare and submit an annual budget proposal to the Newman Center Advisory Committee for review and recommendation.
Pastor of Cathedral makes final approval on Annual Budget.

5. Collaboration with other related ministries.
Develop, coordinate, and maintain contact with the BHSU Newman Center and other Newman Centers and directors in the state and region.
Develop, coordinate, and maintain contact with ministers of other faiths who minister at SDSM&T and other institutions of higher learning by participating in meetings and/or appropriate interfaith activities.
Reach out to incoming freshman and new students.
Attend diocesan meetings that pertain to the Newman Center ministry.

6. Other Expectations:

Maintain confidentiality in matters of office life and Newman Center ministry.
Maintain a safe and orderly work area.
Provide for his/her own spiritual and professional growth.
Assist in promoting a positive and hospitable office climate.
Speak positively about the Newman Center and promote Newman Center activities and events.
Other duties as assigned.
