Job Description
FLSA Status: Full Time ExemptReports to: Chaplain/Director of Campus Ministry
Work Year: 190 days during the school year and approximately 10 additional summer days required
Scope/Purpose: The Christian Service Minister is to assist in creating an environment which encourages and guides all members to contribute and enhance the Catholic identity and prayer life of the campus and further the Catholic formation of a faith community which responds to the spiritual needs of the students, teachers, staff and parents.
The purpose of the Christian Service Minister is to advance the Catholic and spiritual identity of the school-wide community through the school's Christian Service program. In achieving the social justice and mercy mandates of the Catholic Church, the Christian Service Minister works within a variety of interrelated areas including developing and managing Christian Service programming and academic instruction all aimed at enhancing the Catholic and spiritual life of the school and forming disciples of Jesus Christ.
Essential Job Functions:
Supports the mission of the Roman Catholic Church, the Archdiocese of Las Vegas, and Bishop Gorman Catholic High School in word and action
Responsible for maintaining a system of reporting students' Christian Service activities, including, hours and providing regular reports to the Chaplain, Department Chair, and Principal
Supports students and parents in developing fluency within the reporting system for Christian Service hours
Serves as school liaison for students and parents regarding the Christian Service program, and manages problems or issues in the program appropriately and professionally
Responsible for reviewing and updating the Approved Service List annually
Coordinates and oversees the Freshman and Sophomore Days of Service.
Develops, manages and organizes monthly Christian Service projects to achieve and provide the diverse Christian Service needs of the student community
Develops community partnerships to assist students in achieving their Christian Service goals
Manages and maintains community partnerships with parishes and service agencies to ensure the goals of the Christian Service program are being met in addition to the needs of the community partners
In conjunction with the Chaplain, visits Christian service locations on no less than an annual basis and provides a brief summary to the Chair of the Department and the Principal of the efficacy of each service location (e.g., pros, cons, student enrichment, etc.)
Is willing to assist with the creation and implementation of service opportunities/programs that may occur during school vacation times (e.g. mission trips, summer service, etc.)
Approves or denies all Christian Service hours on a weekly basis
Under the direction of the Departmental Chair of Theology, is able to work with members of the Theology Department PLC's to develop and create classroom materials to support student response to, and reflections upon, Christian Service program
In conjunction with Chaplain, Director of Student Activities, and BGTV instructor, trains and supports a team of students leading prayer in daily announcements
Meets weekly with the Chaplain for status updating and general communication.
Conducts an annual evaluation and report of all Christian Service programs to be presented annually to the Chaplain, Theology Department Chair and Principal
Assists other Campus Ministry and Theology personnel as needed for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
Regularly attends meetings and trainings as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
Works directly with faculty/staff in Christian Service initiatives
Is visible and present on the school campus and at school activities
Maintains a close relationship with the school chaplain, pastors and youth leaders in neighboring parishes
Adheres to the policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty and Staff Handbook and the Archdiocese of Las Vegas Employee Handbook
Other duties as necessary including those assigned by the Administration
Qualifications:
Fully initiated and practicing Roman Catholic in good standing who upholds, models, and promotes a moral standard consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church and the vision and mission of Bishop Gorman Catholic High School and nourishes his/her faith through ongoing spiritual formation & prayer, and publicly adheres to Church teachings
Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred) in Theology/Religious Studies/Pastoral Studies or equivalent
Ability and desire to work within a collaborative team setting with other departmental staff, as well as school/community-wide personnel
Ability to utilize and integrate relevant and appropriate technology in support of Campus Ministry programming and classroom instruction
