Job purpose

The Assistant Director serves in a dual capacity, supporting both the Catholic pastoral mission at Temple University through the Newman Center and the parish community at Saint Malachy Parish. In collaboration with the Pastor, this position provides leadership in faith formation, pastoral care, and community building across both communities, creating bridges between campus ministry and parish life.

Duties and responsibilities
Campus Ministry (Newman Center)
Assist in advancing Catholic culture at the Newman Center while maintaining an active, welcoming presence
Work collaboratively with student leaders and FOCUS missionary team
Support liturgical life through:
o Assisting with weekday and Sunday Masses
o Managing sacristan duties and supplies
o Coordinating liturgical ministers (lectors, servers, extraordinary ministers)
o Organizing daily Adoration schedule and coverage
Coordinate major campus events including Welcome Week, Thanksgiving Dinner, and Graduation Luncheon
Maintain relationships with Newman Center alumni
Participate in interfaith initiatives through the University's Interfaith Council

Parish Ministry (Saint Malachy)
Support and coordinate parish faith formation programs:
o Assist with RCIA program
o Support Youth Ministry initiative
o Collaborate in adult faith formation activities
Coordinate parish outreach efforts
o Ensure homebound parishioners receive regular communion and contact
o Engage in community outreach and evangelization
Oversee parish ministries:
o Train and coordinate ushers
o Support the Antiracism Committee
o Assist in developing new ministries as needed
Assist with parish wide events:
o Coordinate Eucharistic processions
o Plan and execute parish retreat
Organize community events (outdoor celebrations, brunches, seasonal gatherings)

Administrative Responsibilities
Assist with communications:
o Coordinate email communications and printed materials
o Support bulletin preparation as needed
o Maintain social media presence
Provide administrative support:
o Assist with fundraising initiatives and mailings
o Support financial processes including banking and online donations
o Help maintain proper records and documentation
o collaborate with parish safe environment coordinator to ensure community is in compliance with Archdiocesan policy
Assist in maintaining coverage of both facilities as needed

Performs all other duties as required consistent with the campus ministry and parish life functions

Qualifications
Faith
Must be a fully initiated, practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church
Demonstrated commitment to living and sharing authentic Catholic teaching
Strong understanding of Church teachings and knowledge of supporting resources
Education
Bachelor's Degree required (Theology, Pastoral Care, or related field preferred)
Experience
Pastoral experience working with young adults and diverse parish communities
Demonstrated success in evangelization and ministry development
Experience in campus ministry preferred
Skills and Abilities
Strong interpersonal skills with ability to engage both students and parishioners
Demonstrated leadership and program development capabilities
Proficiency in current technology and social media platforms
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
Creative problem-solving abilities
Commitment to fostering inclusive, welcoming communities
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Position requires presence at both locations throughout the week
Must complete all required Archdiocesan Safe Environment clearances
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between locations

Working conditions
Regularly required to provide assistance after normal office hours and on weekends via phone, email or in person as needed.

Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tool or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 lbs.
