Job Title: Food Security and Educational Support CoordinatorReports To: Executive Director and Director of Operations
Department: Don Bosco Feeds Program
Location: Don Bosco Community Center, Port Chester
Job Classification: Non-Exempt
Compensation: $18 - $25 P/HR
Employment Type: Full-Time
Regular Hours: Monday & Wednesday, 2:00 PM - 9:30 PM; Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM (37.5 hours/week)
Occasional evening and weekend shifts may be required based on business needs.
Break: A 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
Note: This position is contingent on continued grant funding.
Position Summary:
The Don Bosco Community Center, a Catholic institution, is seeking a dedicated, enthusiastic, and organized individual to join our team as the Food Security and Educational Support Coordinator. This role plays a vital role in the collaborative management of the day-to-day operations of the Don Bosco Feeds Program and its services (Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, Family Closet, and ESL), primarily overseeing the ESL Support. This team member will ensure program efficiency, enhance community engagement, and support participants in accessing food and educational resources, integrating these two aspects seamlessly. The coordinator will work closely with staff, volunteers, community partners, and Don Bosco leadership to maintain a welcoming and organized environment. Additionally, the coordinator will take on ad hoc assignments as needed to support the overall mission of Don Bosco Community Center.
Key Responsibilities:
1. ESL Program Coordination
• Develop and implement a structured ESL support program meeting grant requirements and deliverables fostering clear reporting and grant renewal.
• Coordinate class schedules, oversee student registration, and ensure adequate materials and resources are available.
• Identify, recruit, and onboard volunteer facilitators and support staff, ensuring proper training and resources for effective instruction.
• Develop and maintain accurate records of student participation and progress, providing regular updates to leadership based on grant expectations.
2. Food Security & Volunteer Management
• Provide day-to-day leadership, oversight, and collaboratively manage the Don Bosco Feeds Program and its services (Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry, Family Closet, and ESL), ensuring smooth operations.
• Maintain food safety standards, proper inventory management, and compliance with relevant regulations.
• Coordinate donations and partnerships with food banks, local businesses, and farms to reduce costs and maintain stock.
• Collaborate in the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of volunteers
• Monitor and report on food distribution, community impact, and program performance.
• Purchase food and supplies from Restaurant Depot and local vendors as needed.
• Delegate tasks to staff members, ensuring performance expectations are met and providing training or support when necessary.
• Act as a liaison between staff, volunteers, and leadership to ensure alignment with Don Bosco's mission and goals.
3. Outreach & Community Engagement
• Build relationships with local organizations, attend community events, and establish referral networks for participants to access additional services.
• Organize and connect participants with essential services (e.g., health care, employment assistance) that complement Don Bosco's programs.
• Serve as an ambassador for Don Bosco, embodying its values in interactions with donors, volunteers, community members, and partners.
4. Administration & Reporting
• Assist in writing reports, funding proposals, and grant applications to secure and sustain program funding.
• Monitor program budgets, resource allocations, and adherence to relevant regulations.
• Maintain clear records of Don Bosco Feeds and ESL program metrics, using data to evaluate effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
• Organize regular staff and volunteer meetings to ensure consistent communication, discuss program updates, and align on goals.
• Participate and assist with center-wide initiatives and events as needed, such as fairs, fundraisers, retreats, and other events.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in education, social work, public health, or a related field preferred.
• 2+ years of experience in community program coordination, food security, or education.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Experience working with volunteers and community-based initiatives.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
• Valid driver's license required
• Ability to work collaboratively in a nonprofit setting.
• Ability to lift to 25 lbs. and stand for extended periods as needed.
• Maintain a hospitable and respectful attitude toward all program participants, ensuring a welcoming and dignified experience for everyone served.
