Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Pastoral Associate
FLSA: Exempt

The Church of the Redeemer, Mechanicsville, VA is seeking a full-time Pastoral Associate.

POSITION SUMMARY: In direct collaboration with the Pastor, Parish Staff, and people of Redeemer Parish, the Pastoral Associate is an integral member of the staff who contributes to the proclamation of the Gospel and the building up of the Kingdom of God by assisting the Pastor's leadership and his ministry. The Pastoral Associate acts as the Pastor's delegate in his absence and has additional responsibilities in the area of Adult Faith Formation, Evangelization, and additional areas as outlined in Pastoral Major Duties and Responsibilities.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS: The position reports directly to the Pastor. The Pastoral Associate interacts with the parish staff, youth, parents, young adults, program volunteers, Pastoral Council and diocesan staff.

PASTORAL MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Coordination and Administration
1. Serve as member of the parish staff. Participate in decision-making regarding total parish direction and activities.
2. Cooperate with and parish committees; serve as ex-officio members of the Pastoral and Finance Councils.
3. Act as director of one or more of the parish ministries and assists in the formation of new ministries as needed.
4. Relate to deanery, regional, and ecumenical structures as appropriate.

B. Liturgical/ Sacramental Ministry
1. Assist with preparation of individuals for Marriage and Annulments\Coordinate the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults including recruitment and formation of team members.
2. Resource the Baptism preparation process. Recruit, form, support, and guide preparation team members.

C. Ministry of Education and Formation
1. Assist in providing staff development/ education and enrichment.
2. Shares responsibility for the communication of Church teaching and Canon Law.

ACADEMIC AND WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Theology or equivalent degree. Previous experience in parish ministry in staff position. Be a Catholic in Good Standing

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of the teachings and practices of the Catholic Church
• Strong Computer skills.
• Understand the importance of confidentiality of parish records and conversations.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Self-starter / Ability to work with minimal direction.
• Ability to efficiently handle multiple tasks.
• Friendly and positive manners

SALARY AND BENEFITS: The employee's salary shall be established according to the diocesan scale and reviewed annually. As a regular full-time employee, you are eligible for benefits as outlined in Called to Work in Harmony.
