Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation

Job Description

The Catholic Community of Saint Charles Borromeo is a parish located in the Diocese of Metuchen NJ. We are currently seeking applicants for the position of Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation.
The GIFT program (Growing In Faith Together) provides faith formation, catechetical instruction and sacramental preparation for children and families. The Pastoral Assistant for Faith Formation coordinates the preparation and instruction for the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Communion and Confirmation, and creates and coordinates a dynamic family faith formation for children from first through eighth grade.
The Pastoral Assistant also coordinates programs periodically needed for young people with special needs, as well as those in need of a catechumenal model for the Sacraments of Initiation.
Additionally, the Pastoral Assistant works together with the Pastoral Team, meeting at least twice a month to assess parish life and to plan and coordinate parish observances, such as Lent and Advent.
Responsibilities:
i 40 hour per week commitment including some evenings and
Sundays
i Twice a month GIFT formation from October through May. Sessions are one hour long and are offered twice each month, on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings.
o Organize creative and engaging sessions
o Recruit and train volunteers
o Maintain and update website and calendar
o Provide materials for any special needs
o Provide parent support
o Bulletin item each week
o Weekly emails for families with updates and resources for the sessions
i Maintain registration and attendance logs. Responsible for keeping logs each year for participation in the program, and sacramental records.
i Confirmation
o 7th and 8th graders meet in person for 6 sessions per year
o Saint projects based on names chosen for the sacrament
o Sponsor projects
o Mass participation coordination for 8th grade
o Service experience for 8th grade (Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen)
o Coordinate interviews for 8th graders
o Organize Confirmation celebration in coordination with Pastor and Liturgical team.
i First Reconciliation/First Communion
o 4 sessions for each Sacrament, meet on Sunday morning before Mass
o 1 retreat for each Sacrament, offered on Saturday morning

While a college degree in religious or theological studies is helpful, we are looking for applicants who have at least 3-5 years' experience with some model of Intergenerational Catechesis. This is a full-time position with competitive salary based on experience. The position would begin on July 1, 2025.
