Position Overview:
The drama Teacher will be responsible for implementing the drama curriculum. The ideal candidate will have a deep appreciation for theater and a strong commitment to nurturing students' creativity and talent. As a drama Teacher, you will be responsible for teaching drama classes, directing productions, and inspiring students to explore and excel in the dramatic arts.
Responsibilities:
* Develop and implement effective lessons embodying classical teaching principles.
* Build appropriate relationships with the students that develop a passion for learning and a love for God and others.
* Implement an engaging curriculum for drama class.
* Instruct students on the fundamentals of theater techniques, improvisation, voice projection, and stage presence.
* Organize and direct school theater productions, including selecting plays, casting roles, coordinating rehearsals, and managing technical aspects such as lighting, sound, and set design.
* Provide constructive feedback and guidance to students on their performances and projects.
* Collaborate with other arts faculty and school staff to integrate Drama into interdisciplinary projects.
* Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and performance evaluations.
* Effectively assess the academic, moral, and spiritual growth of the students.
* Be sensitive to academic and behavioral concerns as they are developing and intervene immediately.
* Demonstrate effective classroom management skills.
* Communicate frequently with students and their parents.
* Create a welcoming, nurturing, and age-appropriate classroom environment.
* Diligently enforce all school policies.
* Effectively supervise students during non-academic periods such as lunch, chapel, or study halls.
Requirements
* Practicing Roman Catholic and demonstrate a commitment to Catholic secondary education (Preferred)
* Bachelor's degree in Theater Arts, Drama, Performing Arts, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
* 2+ years teaching experience in a classical school environment (Preferred)
* Resilient and adaptable and possess strong time management and organizational skills
* Committed to the mission of Chesterton Schools Network and the teachings of the Catholic Church.
* An understanding of and adherence to Chesterton Academy's mission, philosophy of education, and organizational culture
* Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to interface with students, parents, colleagues and administrators with grace, sensitivity, and flexibility
* The ability to collaborate successfully with faculty, staff and the school board
* Strong knowledge of theater history, dramatic literature, and various theatrical styles and techniques
* Passion for working with high school students and fostering their artistic development.
