Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE: Small Groups and Bible Studies exist as part of the overall pastoral mission of the parish. The Steward for Small Group and Bible Studies consults with the Steward for Faith Formation to develop, implement, and direct our Small Groups and Small Group offerings.DIMENSIONS: St. Michael Parish & School has approximately 2,500 registered families and 7,000 individuals, serving two worship sites in Olympia, Washington.
NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is 20 hours a week, 52 weeks a year, and oversees our Small Group and Bible Studies offerings. This is an hourly, non-exempt position, and timesheets must be submitted according to the schedule established by Payroll Services.
Position Responsibilities:
1. Organize a Core Team. The Steward will form a core team to advise and, where appropriate, to help carry out the steward's duties.
2. Support Shepherds. The Coordinator will give assistance, support, advice, training, etc, to the Shepherds, who are the managers/mentors to the facilitators of the small groups. This also includes praying for the shepherds.
3. Organize Small Groups. The Steward will coordinate and implement, with the help of other team members:
• the promotion of small groups,
• advertising the upcoming sessions,
• development of curriculum,
• training of facilitators,
• formation of new groups,
• gathering of new facilitators,
• creation and distribution of materials,
• planning gatherings such as Prayer with the Pastor for facilitators and a social event i.e. All Group Chili Feed, and
• Assure continuing education for the facilitators, shepherds, and team members
4. Organize Bible Study Offerings. The Steward will coordinate and implement the yearly offerings for our adult bibles studies.
• the promotion of small groups,
• advertising the upcoming sessions,
• Choosing & purchasing bible study curriculum,
• training of facilitators,
• formation of new groups,
• gathering of new facilitators,
• creation and distribution of materials,
• Assure continuing education for the facilitators.
5. Incumbent assures the budget is prepared and submitted in a timely manner. When budget is approved, assures the monthly monitoring of expenses and authorizes all expenditures for that budget. Incumbent submits check requests for any incurred expenses, assures check requests are approved by Supervisor and include correct account coding information. Incumbent also assures the maintenance of accurate and confidential record-keeping systems for this area of responsibility.
6. Attended all staff and faith formation team meetings.
7. Participate in all parish-wide thematic goals by setting and aligning ministry goals to the parish's strategic goals.
The Steward for Small Groups performs other duties as assigned.
