Director of Evangelization and Discipleship

Job Description

Saint Mary of the Visitation and Saint Patrick, Ottumwa are looking for a full-time Director of Evangelization and Discipleship. The core responsibilities of this position are adult faith formation (including OCIA), young adult and youth ministry, use of social media and online technology.
The qualified applicant is to be a Catholic in good standing, with in-depth knowledge of Catholic teaching, good communication skills, and a desire to share the faith and form disciples for Christ. Advanced studies in theology and faith formation are a plus, as would ability to speak and write in Spanish.

Responsibilities:
1. Adult Faith Formation
a. Coordinates and conducts adult outreach, including for young adults and Seton school alumni, to allow for faith formation, faith sharing, retreats, service activities, etc.
b. Engages new or inactive parishioners
c. Assists DRE with Family Faith Formation Nights

2. Coordinates OCIA and youth sacramental preparation
a. Recruits and trains catechists
b. Collects baptism certificates
c. Coordinates with the parish secretary as regards recording in the books and electronic format
d. Keeps sacramental records updated in the parish database (Servant Keeper)
e. Keeps parish census information updated for annual reporting

3. Youth Ministry
a. Coordinates and conducts opportunities for parish youth faith development, e.g. meetings, prayer, retreats/conferences, service activities, etc.
b. Assists with Totus Tuus Evening Program/Summer Program (w/DRE)
c. Coordinates Quinceanera's, together with the pastor

4. Social Media and online resources
a. Manages FB, websites, and other social media for the parish and Seton school
b. Oversees FORMED.ORG account

5. Promotion/Marketing
a. Makes and distributes print and electronic posters for parish and school events
b. Speaks at Masses, etc. to invite parishioners to events

6. Communicates with the pastor and parish regularly
a. Attends weekly Staff Meeting
b. Keeps pastor updated
c. Gives a report at the Parish Council meetings

7. Communicates and coordinates with pertinent Diocesan offices
