PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Director of Hispanic Ministry oversees and supports all areas of Hispanic ministry in the Archdiocese of Mobile. The Director promotes the participation and full integration of Hispanic Catholics into the life of the Church by meeting with pastors and parish leaders to better understand their pastoral needs. Equipped with this understanding, the Director then networks resources, developing ministries, provides leadership formation, faith formation and evangelization ministries to support parish-based ministry efforts.
The Associate Director of the Department of Multicultural Ministry assists the Executive Director in overseeing all employees and initiatives of the Department. Broadly the Coordinator seeks to build a culture of inclusion within the Archdiocese of Mobile. The Associate Director works with the Executive Director, other positions within the Department, as well as with other Archdiocese Department employees, to help make sure all people of all cultures are being considered and included in the planning of all Archdiocesan ministries.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
• Pastoral experience in working with multiple different cultures is preferred
• Strong listening, empathy and organizational skills
• Pastoral experience in working with Hispanic ministry.
• Must be well-acquainted with diverse Hispanic cultures and traditions.
• Complete fluency in English and Spanish required, native speaker preferred.
• Must be a practicing Catholic in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church; with a deep understanding and love for the Church and her teachings.
• Must be highly organized with administrative, project management, and supervisory skills.
• Must have intermediate to advanced computer skills and familiarity with social media.
• Must have strong verbal and/or written communication skills to clearly and concisely deliver concepts, opinions and ideas in a professional manner in Spanish and English.
• Strategy/Visioning: Connect archdiocese strategies and pastoral plan into actionable plans and goals.
• Must possess demonstrated skills as a servant leader in crafting and implementing a mission, vision, and strategies.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in diocesan ministry.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience working with the Hispanic Catholic community.
• Capacity to work well with clergy, diocesan personnel and advisory bodies, parish personnel, volunteers and the public.
• Willingness to travel and to spend considerable time away from home, given the geographic expansiveness of the Archdiocese of Mobile.
• College graduate or equivalent work-related experience.
JOB DUTIES:
Director, Office of Hispanic Ministry
• Oversees and directs all Hispanic Ministry programs related to the Office of Hispanic ministry.
• The director of Hispanic Ministry serves the needs of Hispanic communities especially in the areas of leadership formation, evangelization, catechesis and discipleship.
• Studies and implements the Archdiocese "Plan Pastoral" for Hispanic Ministry
• Works with Archdiocesan leadership, regional leadership (SEPI-Southeastern Pastoral Institute) and national entities to evaluate and redevelop pastoral plan when necessary
• Meets with the Pastors and Hispanic Ministry Leaders throughout the Archdiocese to assess their needs, coordinate efforts and see how the Office can more effectively be a support to parish-based efforts-at least quarterly
• Provides regular leadership training for Hispanic Ministry Leaders from parishes around the Archdiocese-at least monthly online and at least quarterly in person
• Encourages every pastor with Hispanic ministry to appoint a Hispanic Ministry Leader with whom the Office of Hispanic Ministry can stay in regular contact
• Provides Catechetical training and up-to-date resources and formation in collaboration with the Office of Evangelization and Family Life.
• Supports, informs and guides all parish volunteers and coordinators of Hispanic ministry and offers them resources, training and networking where needed.
• Provides guidance and direction in keeping with all applicable Archdiocesan guidelines to the various Spanish Prayer groups and movements within the Archdiocese.
• Collaborates with the different Archdiocesan offices in the areas of evangelization, youth and young adults, catechesis, social outreach etc.
• Prepares, maintains and administers the Hispanic Ministry budget.
• Collaborates with the Office for Protection of Minors and Adults in conducting the child protection training for volunteers and other Spanish speaking personnel of parishes and Archdiocesan offices.
• Collaborates with the Office of Evangelization and Family Life to support evangelization, faith formation, and pastoral care of engaged and married couples and families.
• Collaborates with the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry to support
evangelization, faith formation, and pastoral care of youth and young adults.
• Provides expertise and support to other archdiocesan departments and offices, as well as to pastors, in all aspects of Hispanic pastoral ministry.
• Oversees the Hispanic Ministry Facebook page and website for the purpose of reaching out to the community and disseminating information.
• Coordinates the production of Spanish translations of all official diocesan documents and communications.
• Any other responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of the Department of Multicultural Ministry and/ or the Archbishop.
Coordinator, Department of Multicultural Ministry
• To help develop and implement the vision for the Department
• Oversees the overall Department of Multicultural Ministry's budget as well as the individual budgets of Hispanic Ministry, Black Ministry, etc.
• Oversees job performance of all employees of the Department-approve their timecards, keep up with their vacation days, sick days, sign for their mileage and check requests and report problems to Executive Director
• Organizes a workshop to help parishes better develop "multicultural competencies"-at least annually
• Look for cultures around the Archdiocese that are in need of better pastoral care and involvement in both parish and archdiocesan ministries-propose ministry initiatives to Executive Director
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must have own vehicle and be willing to drive extensively within and outside the boundaries of the Archdiocese, and to work evenings and weekends when required.
• This position requires lifting up to 50lbs and carrying supplies for ministry programs on a regular basis.
