JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Liturgy and Sacramental Practice seeks to make the celebration of sacraments and liturgy in all its forms a source of spiritual growth and development for the people in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee through promotion of divine worship and liturgical music as vital to prayer and deepening faith; discovering art and architecture which help create environments conducive to worship and spirituality; and offering pastoral guidance in the celebration of the sacraments and other rites.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Planning, preparation, and oversight of major diocesan liturgies, including Ordinations, the Chrism Mass, the Rite of Election, and, at the request of the Bishop, other liturgies at which the Bishop presides, preparing celebrant's texts and worship aids as needed.
2. Ongoing development and implementation of diocesan sacramental guidelines, in close collaboration with the Ministry Offices, including training and formation of clergy, parish and Catholic school leaders and the faithful through workshops and resource materials offered through various media. This responsibility will especially
include implementation of a Restored Order of Confirmation.
3. Maintaining channels of communication with USCCB's Committee on Divine Worship and communicating new texts, decrees, and liturgical revisions from both the Conference and the Holy See to the Bishop, pastors, and liturgical ministers all over the diocese, and assisting the Bishop in the formulations and implementation of
new diocesan liturgical policies and directives.
4. Planning and presenting workshops and instructional texts on liturgical and sacramental matters as required; collaborative assistance to other offices and groups in preparing and managing both liturgies and prayer texts.
5. Serving as a resource for parishes, schools, offices, and institutions regarding liturgical and sacramental matters throughout the Diocese.
6. Formulating and maintaining guidelines for lay liturgical ministers, including Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Lectors, and altar servers, as well as providing oversight for their proper formation, training and certification where required by Canon Law.
7. Planning and preparing liturgies celebrated at the annual Convocation of Priests and Priests' Retreat, as well as the preparation of worship aids and the provisioning of chapel space at the retreat or convocation sites.
8. Acting as the authorized diocesan spokesperson on liturgical matters on behalf of the Bishop, oversight of all liturgical texts, prayer texts, worship aids, and announcements of liturgical events published by the Diocesan Communications Office or other departments.
9. In collaboration with the Office of Faith Formation, promotion and instruction as needed on the full implementation of the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults, including but not limited to the planning and execution of an annual diocesan workshop to provide formation for clergy and OCIA coordinators and catechists, including those catechists serving the incarcerated.
10. Preparation of an annual budget for the Office of Liturgy and Sacramental Practice and careful attention to budget maintenance and other financial processes throughout the year.
11. Providing resources for and evaluations of proposals for new worship spaces and church buildings undergoing remodeling.
12. Engaging parishes, schools and other relevant ministries in matters pertaining to the celebration and evaluation of liturgies, liturgical music, liturgical piety and spirituality.
13. Development and maintenance of a complete and up to date library of current ritual texts and liturgical instructions, in English as well as Spanish where possible, to serve fully the liturgical needs of the Bishop and the parishes of the Diocese.

JOB SPECIIFCATONS
EDUCATION: The Director should possess a minimum of a Licentiate in Sacred Theology; or Master's Degree in Liturgy, Liturgical Studies or Sacramental Theology; or a graduate degree in a similar specialization.
EXPERIENCE: The Director should have at least three years pastoral experience in the area of sacraments and liturgy at the parish and diocesan level. Experience in parish sacramental and liturgical formation, including catechetical formation, preferred.
LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS AND/OR REGISTRATION: Valid driver's license; must pass background screening, credit check and all diocesan requirements for employees.
EQUIPMENT/TOOLS/WORK-AIDS: Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, photocopier, and multi-line phone system.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
1. A thorough working knowledge of the Church's liturgical documents and texts.
2. Possess excellent communication and writing skills and the ability to create, build, and maintain good working relationships with clergy, pastoral ministers, and the lay faithful.
3. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, publication software, and contemporary communications technology.
4. The Director should be a practicing Catholic committed to the core teachings of the Catholic Church and fully embrace the vision and strategy of the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee.
5. Punctual and demonstrate the ability to organize work and manage time effectively.
6. Work independently.
7. (desirable) Proficiently read, write and converse in Spanish.

WORK CONDITIONS: Inside environment, protected from weather, but not necessarily from temperature changes. Provide event and program support some weekends throughout the year.

About the Employer
The Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, founded in 1975, covers the 18 most northwestern counties of the State of Florida. Although the diocese is young, its roots go back to the first European settlement of this region. A fleet of ships carrying 1,500 colonists sailed into what is now Pensacola Bay on August 15, 1559. On behalf of the Spanish crown, Don Tristan de Luna established the first settlement in what was to become the United States of America. The settlement was abandoned in 1561 due to damage from hurricanes that destroyed the settlers' supplies.Our diocese enjoys the distinction of being a "dual see" diocese. It has two centers from which the bishop governs - Pensacola and Tallahassee.
