Job Description
Presently, we are seeking an Assistant Controller who will be responsible for assisting the Controller with the overall administration of accounting activities for the diocese and departments and offices. Primary duties and responsibilities include the following:• Prepares daily, weekly and monthly journal entries; Prepares and analyzes bank reconciliations for diocesan bank accounts; Prepares and analyzes balance sheet account reconciliations.
• Performs Treasury operations such as wire transfers, manage Positive Pay Exceptions and initiate ACH transactions as needed.
• Monitors and posts credit card activity from the Diocese of Metuchen online application. Coordinates with Development to monitor and reconcile credit card activity for the Bishop's Annual Appeal from Blackbaud Merchant Services.
• iHas responsibility for the Investment Management Fund subledger maintained in the DLS software, which includes daily (or as needed) payment processing and quarterly invoicing for loans.
• Prepares consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing information from the general ledger system and from departments.
• Assists with invoice approvals through the Microix Workflow Payment application; includes verification of support documentation and ensures proper account coding.
• Maintains regular and detailed interaction with A/P, A/R, Payroll and Data Processing for analytical and process support.
• Provide support to A/R, Payroll and Data Processing by taking on their responsibilities during their absence.
• Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data.
• Performs other duties as required.
The ideal candidate will possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills, be highly proficient in the use of technology (development software, accounting and financial management software and contact management systems), and demonstrate a high degree of accuracy with respect to recordkeeping. Additional qualifications include the following:
• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• 5 years or more related experience
