POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Associate Director for Adult and Family Faith Formation
Department: Office for Lifelong Faith Formation
Reports To: Director
Classification: Exempt
Salary Range: $60,000 - 65,000 per year

General Description
The Associate Director, as a member of the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation professional staff, is responsible for the on-going development of the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation in the Archdiocese of Newark in the areas of adult, family, and family life/chastity catechesis within the parishes of the archdiocese and in the oversight and coordination of parish catechesis in the Hudson and Essex Regions. (S)He acts as a contact person, consultant, specialist and resource person for them. In addition, the Associate Director acts a specialist and resource person in family and family life/chastity catechesis working with the Associate Director for Catechesis in Catholic Schools and other offices of the archdiocese as needed. (S)He works as a team member with the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation in discerning the areas of Catechetical Ministry development and coordination throughout the Archdiocese of Newark and cooperates with the other agencies of the archdiocese as is required. The Associate Director performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Director.

Specific Duties/Responsibilities
The following specific responsibilities are representative of the duties required in this position. They may be unilaterally but reasonably changed based on the working environment and departmental needs.
• Develop and implement a continuing plan for the development and support of adult and family, and faith life/chastity faith formation in parish catechetical programs in the archdiocese.
• Assess needs, offer support, and aid parish catechetical leaders in the areas of adult, family and family life/chastity faith formation and alternative models of catechesis in collaboration with the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation Staff.
• Act as a resource and contact person for pastors, parish administrators and parish catechetical leaders, vis a vis the implementation of the catechetical policies relative to adult and family faith formation programs, and Family Life curriculums within the archdiocese.
• Collaborate with the Associate Director for Catechesis in Catholic Schools for the implementation in the school context of the policies and curriculum guidelines of the archdiocese in the area of Family Life / Chastity Education and Formation.
• Exercise administrative responsibility for the "Spotlight on the Catechism" and "Spotlight on the Scriptures" course series sponsored by the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation for catechist and adult formation, including scheduling, publicity, registration, record keeping, finances and evaluation.
• Provide workshops, retreat days, in-service sessions as requested or as required.
• Collaborate with other members of the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation staff in carrying forward the plans and programs of the office.
• Provide information for professional development to PCLs via email, social media, and the office website.
• Review resources for adult and family faith formation and family life/chastity catechesis and make recommendations regarding the inclusion of such materials in the ongoing outreach and communications with parishes and parish leaders.
• Act as a curriculum resource person within adult and family faith formation and family life/chastity catechesis.
• Collaborate with Family Life Office and other archdiocesan agencies in programming for parish Catechesis.
• Visit the parishes of the archdiocese as required in the fulfillment of the responsibilities set forth above.
• Serve as the Diocesan Leader for the Echo Graduate Service Program - Parish Track
o Sustain a fruitful partnership with the Echo Graduate Service Program of the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame.
o Establish strong, professional relationships and partnerships with our Echo apprentices, their pastors, and parish mentors.
o To ensure the office effectively carries out the archdiocesan leader's responsibilities as outlined by the ECHO program.
Regional Responsibilities
• Develop and carry out a continuing plan for the oversight and support of the parish catechetical programs of the Essex and Hudson Regions of the Archdiocese.
• Act as a "gateway" and point of contact between other Office for Lifelong Formation staff and the needs of the parishes in the Essex and Hudson Regions.
• Represent the Office for Lifelong Faith Formation at regional meetings of Parish Catechetical Leaders in the Essex and Hudson Regions, and to assist in their organization, agenda development and programming.
• To visit the parishes of the Essex and Hudson Regions of the archdiocese as required in the fulfillment of the responsibilities set forth above.
• All other duties as assigned

Qualifications/Skills
• Must be a practicing Catholic
• Must possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs, in particular MS Office 365, Canva, Google Suite, and various social media platforms
• Facility in Spanish is preferred.
• A clean driver's license is required.
• Some evenings and weekends are required.

Education and/or Experience (Preferred)
• A master's degree in Catechetics, Theology, Education or a related field is required.
• Minimally, five years' experience in parish catechetical ministry.
