Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation

REPORTS TO: Pastor

OVERVIEW:
The mission of Light of the World Parish is: Forming disciples to live and share the abundant life of Christ. This mission is organized and advanced through the Pathway of Discipleship. There are four general stages: pre-evangelization, evangelization, discipleship, and apostolate, which our parish has given the names: Find, Encounter, Journey, and Witness. (see the appendix, below) Parish pastoral activity seeks to help people advance along the pathway from whatever point they currently are on toward a mature and fruitful discipleship that leads others to Christ.

This position will work on the Adult Faith Formation team in close conjunction with the Director of Evangelization and the Director of Disciple Formation. The team roles are distinct but complementary. The Director of Evangelization is focused on the early stages of the Pathway and reaching beyond current parish membership to find and evangelize people in the world. The Director of Disciple Formation is focused on leading current Catholics through a formation process that will make them intentional missionary disciples. The Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation will focus on the catechetical formation of those desiring to become Catholic as well as helping parishioners to grow and deepen their faith life through different parish catechetical offerings and events.

MAJOR POSITION RESPONSIBLIITIES:

Order of Christian Initiation:
Prepare candidates and catechumens for fruitful reception of the sacraments. This preparation includes: the teaching of Catholic doctrine and Sacred Scripture in order to build up a Christian worldview, instilling a sincere commitment to conversion from sin to holiness, guidance into the depths of Christian prayer, and an apprenticeship in actively living all the dimensions of the Catholic Faith. This preparation requires personal familiarity and engagement with the candidates and catechumens.
Coordinate with the Director of Family Ministry who has the primary responsibility in preparing children and teenagers for reception into the Catholic Church, so that they will be properly included in the rites of the OCIA.
Work with the pastor and liturgy team to celebrate the different liturgical rites of the OCIA from the Rite of Entrance to the Sacraments of Initiation. Lead the candidates' and catechumens' participation in the Rite of Election at the cathedral.
Provide appropriate and alternative formation tracks for certain candidates if they do not need to embark on the entire OCIA process due to previous formation, or if their life situation prevents participation in the normal OCIA track.
Obtain and properly archive all the necessary documentation for candidates and catechumens (e.g., baptismal records, annulments, etc.) and ensure that their reception of the sacraments are properly recorded in the parish records.
Assemble a team to assist in the running of the OCIA program. This will include the recruitment and training of many sponsors from the parish for those catechumens and candidates who do not know someone who can serve in that capacity.
Facilitate the neophytes' integration into parish life as well as any Mystagogia after the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation.

Coordinate Parish Adult Faith Formation
In conjunction with the Pastor and faith formation staff, develop and coordinate faith formation initiatives for adult parishioners, focused on addressing people at different points on the Pathway of Discipleship. This includes both directly preparing and leading activities as well as coordinating opportunities from external sources. The initiatives include:
Coordinate parish missions
Launch Bible and catechetical studies
Promote and share different sources for ongoing catechesis (Formed, Word on Fire, etc.)
Run periodic retreats for parishioners
Help promote and run parish pilgrimages
Invite occasional speakers and workshops for parishioners

Qualifications for the position
• 3 to 5 years of experience in evangelization and/or catechetical leadership.
