Job Description

Development Coordinator Job Post
St. John's Seminary, a Roman Catholic Theology School in Camarillo, California, offers graduate degrees for seminarians pursuing priesthood and lay students pursuing Catholic pastoral ministry.

We are seeking a talented, and experienced, full-time Development Coordinator who will be a strong advocate of the Seminary's mission to ordain men to the priesthood. The candidate will support efforts to expand the "culture of philanthropy" at the Seminary by being a visible part of the community, serving as an initial point of contact, receiving calls, and welcoming donors and visitors.
This position performs several administrative tasks, including but not limited to data entry, preparing quarterly reports and presenting them at the Board of Directors meetings, preparing the annual development department budget, preparing check requisitions, and maintaining expenditures. The candidate is also responsible for maintaining a development calendar with appeal schedules and donor events, such as the annual Gala and Open House, in addition to several Seminary activities that provide donor stewardship opportunities.
The candidate is also responsible for writing appeal letters, compiling a concise mailing list, and coordinating with the mailing house. This includes recording incoming donations, maintaining gift records using Raiser's Edge software program, our on-site donor database, and promptly writing gift acknowledgment letters.
The candidate will co-design donor event materials and act as an event coordinator regarding contact with caterers, rental companies, and venue personnel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Knowledge of fundraising software; Raiser's Edge preferred. Must have strong writing skills, and excellent organizational skills. Proficiency with Microsoft applications (Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint).
• A bachelor's degree in either business, communications, or English is required.
• A minimum of 2 to 3 years experience working in a nonprofit-related or similar institution, preferably in a development/fundraising department.
Hours: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Must be able to work occasional evenings or weekends.
Valid California driver's license and car.
A commitment to Roman Catholic faith, discretion, and professional ethics.
