Job Description
The Marketing/Digital Communications Specialist is an essential role that works directly with several members of the team to support our social media development, digital marketing, blogs and more. The ideal candidate will be a creative and proactive individual who enjoys a collaborative team environment. We are looking for someone whose values and beliefs align with the University's mission, values, and ethics. Someone who is passionate about DMU's mission and can demonstrate how it's meaningful to them.This position is full time and reports to the Sr. Director of Marketing while partnering with the Multimedia Manager and Admissions/Marketing Assistant. This position is located in Sterling, Virginia.
Requirements
Social media and digital marketing
In coordination with the Sr. Director of Marketing, develop and implement new strategies and campaigns for the organization's social media channels
Develop weekly social media content calendar
Support development and tracking of paid ad campaigns
Create monthly social media analytics reports; research and track social media trends
Additional event and social media support as needed
Graphic design and video content
Work with the marketing team to develop graphics, infographics and short videos for social media
Edit videos for social media
Weekly/Quarterly collateral updates
Educational content
Design and promote bi-monthly alumni newsletter
Write quarterly newsletter
Develop infographics and fact sheets
General communications writing and support
Interview current student/alumni spokespeople about their journey stories; Utilize these interviews to draft blog profiles, letters to the editor and anecdotes for social media
Other writing, editing and data needs on an ad hoc basis
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in any field is required; Communications, marketing, or journalism preferred
EXPERIENCE:
Minimum 3 years of related communications experience in communications, public affairs, marketing, or journalism preferred.
Superior writing and editing skills
Proactive and creative in nature
Highly detail-oriented with strong follow-through
Strong collaboration skills and ability to work effectively with various departments
Experience with crafting compelling stories and campaigns for social media
Experience with tracking social media analytics and trends
Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and Canva
A keen eye for design (educational or professional training a plus)
Knowledge of and experience using CRMs/databases (Salesforce or Populi) a plus
Prior experience working for nonprofit and/or advocacy organizations a plus
Bilingual Spanish a plus
Proficient in using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and data entry/management.
Understands best practices for Social Media management including X, Facebook, and emerging platforms.
Maintains active and effective communications
