Job Description
SUMMARYThe Director of Finance and Operations plays a critical role in the strategic financial management and operational efficiency of the Koch Foundation. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the Director of Finance and Operations is responsible for overseeing the foundation's financial strategy, managing day-to-day operations, ensuring fiscal accountability, and driving long-term sustainability while upholding the foundation's Catholic values. This position integrates financial leadership with operational oversight, fostering an environment of transparency, integrity, and mission-driven decision-making.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Financial Management and Leadership
•Lead the development and execution of the foundation's financial strategy, aligning financial resources with the foundation's mission and long-term goals.
•Oversee the preparation, review, and presentation of comprehensive financial reports to the board, finance/investment committee, and Executive Director.
•Manage the annual budgeting and forecasting process, ensuring funds are appropriately allocated and utilized in support of mission-driven initiatives.
•Maintain effective oversight of financial risk management, ensuring proactive measures to safeguard the foundation's assets and operations.
•Monitor and manage cash flow to ensure the foundation's liquidity and long-term sustainability.
•Oversee and manage the processing of all accounts payable, ensuring timely and accurate payment of invoices, proper documentation, and adherence to the foundation's financial policies and procedures.
Operational Oversight
•Supervise day-to-day operational activities, ensuring systems and processes are in place to optimize efficiency and support the foundation's growth.
•Implement and monitor internal controls to ensure financial integrity and compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
•Review and refine operational policies, procedures, and best practices to ensure efficient resource management and operational excellence.
•Manage relationships with outside vendors and contractors who provide services or products to the foundation, ensuring contracts are aligned with the foundation's values and operational needs.
Oversight of Annual Audit
•Oversee the annual audit process, ensuring timely completion and adherence to auditing standards.
•Coordinate with external auditors to ensure a comprehensive and thorough review of the foundation's financial statements, operations, and internal controls.
•Review audit findings, addressing any issues or recommendations in collaboration with the finance team and board.
•Present audit results and recommendations to the board, ensuring clear communication and transparency.
•Ensure all required regulatory filings and compliance reports are submitted accurately and on time following the audit.
Endowment and Investment Oversight
•Collaborate with the foundation's investment committee to define and manage endowment investment strategies, ensuring alignment with the foundation's values, mission, and financial goals.
•Oversee relationships with investment managers, advisors, and other partners, ensuring rigorous due diligence and performance monitoring.
•Provide strategic insight and recommendations regarding the distribution and reinvestment of funds to further the foundation's mission.
Strategic Planning and Collaboration
•Work closely with the Executive Director and leadership team to develop and implement the foundation's strategic initiatives and long-term objectives.
•Ensure that financial and operational systems are aligned with the foundation's vision for growth and continued impact.
•Advise senior leadership on financial and operational matters, providing strategic insights and guidance on key organizational decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
A Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field is required. A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or equivalent in nonprofit management, public administration, or a related field, preferred. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a philanthropic, nonprofit, or public sector organization with a demonstrated track record of managing complex operations, overseeing significant financial resources, and developing impactful programs.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES
•A high level of organizational and interpersonal skill is required.
•Ability to pay attention to detail and work well with others is required.
•Must have the ability to manage and to present oneself professionally.
•Proven experience managing large financial portfolios, endowments, or investments.
•Expertise in financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning for mission driven organizations.
•Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting standards, tax-exempt regulations, and financial reporting requirements.
•Experience in Catholic or faith-based organizations is a plus, though not required.
•Ability to communicate effectively with fellow staff and partner organizations/grantees.
•Ability to effectively communicate with the board of directors. Confidentiality is essential.
•Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts such as adding, dividing, and multiplying.
•Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
•Ability to effectively prioritize tasks and time demands.
•Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint; working knowledge of Excel.
•Must be able to work well with various personalities within the Catholic Church.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The working hours of this position are somewhat flexible and adhere to company policy. Must be willing to work in conditions of stress and function well under pressure.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ability to sit and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to reach, grasp, feel, and see up close and from afar. Must be able to use basic office computer hardware and peripherals, with or without reasonable accommodation. Must be able to communicate verbally and in written form. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (15 pounds).
