Job Description

SUMMARY:

St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Auburn, AL, seeks a Youth Minister passionate about helping young people grow in their faith and deeply committed to our Catholic beliefs. They should be bold and confident in sharing the Gospel with young people and have a strong desire to help students make Jesus the center of their lives. It's also essential for the Youth Minister to have a professional demeanor while being creative and driven in reaching out to new students.

The Youth Minister manages program content, volunteers, and budgets to build a vibrant youth community at St. Michael the Archangel Parish. The position performs various activities to direct and coordinate a robust faith-filled youth ministry aimed at helping middle school and high school students grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. The Youth Minister coordinates with other staff, leadership, and parents, ensuring that efforts are transparent and aligned with and nurturing the culture and intentions of Church teachings and parish priorities. The Youth Minister acts with integrity and the highest degree of hospitality and professionalism, demonstrating collaboration and energy in serving others in the parish community.

The Youth Minister is responsible for the spiritual formation of students in grades 6-12, including preparing them for the sacrament of Confirmation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manages all youth ministry programs to encourage middle and high school youth into a deeper relationship with Jesus
• Follow all Catholic Church and Archdiocese of Mobile standards, policies, and guidelines.
• Collaboration of ministry activities with the Director of Parish Faith Formation
• Plans events and activities specifically designed to recruit new youth -inside and outside the parish - into the programs.
• Effectively and creatively provides communications to youth, the parish community, and parents regarding activities and events through appropriate communication platforms, including Flocknote and Parish website.
• Provides opportunities for youth, including retreats, service opportunities, mission trips, and community-building activities that foster a culture of evangelization and discipleship among the youth, coordinating all aspects of the events, including communication and volunteers.
• Coordinates volunteer recruitment, training, and evaluation and provides ongoing faith formation and support.
• Represents the needs of youth to the pastor, other staff members, and the parish community as appropriate.
• Foster the involvement of the youth in parish life.
• Develops and maintains records and information pertinent to youth ministry, such as participation lists, resource materials, event information, budget, program expense/income, etc.
• Develops long-range plans and sets goals for youth ministry programs, annually reviewing and evaluating actual results with desired outcomes.
• Attend regular pastoral staff meetings and events.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Active and practicing member in good standing with the Roman Catholic Church
• Dedication to personal ongoing formation, personal prayer, and spiritual life
• Current knowledge of culture, trends, and issues facing youth today.
• Effective organizer, planner, and implementer
• Collaborative; strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Organized, prompt, and enthusiastic
• Strong and optimistic problem-solving skills

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor's Degree in religious studies, religious education, catechetics, education, or theology (if no degree in these disciplines, commensurate experience in religious education ministry will be considered)
• 2+ years' experience in catechetical ministry, preferably in a parish setting
• 2+ years' experience in administration

WORKING HOURS:

Due to the nature of the programming, this is a non-standard working hours position that includes evenings, nights, and weekends.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

The position works in a typical Church office environment but is subject to stress due to the evolving needs of the parish and tight deadlines. The candidate must be able to sit and perform computer work for lengthy periods. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
