JOB SUMMARY:

This employee will work to assist the Store Manager meet store objectives through the utilization of selling techniques and the responsible handling of cashiering functions while working within the framework of the St. Vincent de Paul Society's mission and thrift store objectives.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ensures accurate handling of voucher, cash, check, and charge transactions while maintaining accurate documentation of all appropriate paperwork.
• In the absence of the Store Manager, is responsible for all cash management in accordance with SVdP policy with regard to bank deposits, daily receipts, and the preparation of cash register receipts, etc.
• Provides a sincere, warm, friendly, and helpful atmosphere in filling the needs of the customer and clients.
• Ensures the telephone is answered in an efficient and courteous manner while offering assistance to the caller as needed, including assistance in locating specified merchandise in another SVdP store.
• Maintains a clean and litter-free check out area and assists other store personnel in the general upkeep of the store.
• In the absence of the Store Manager, monitors the receiving and pricing of merchandise to ensure all merchandise is properly accounted for and that merchandise is properly priced, ticketed, and displayed.
• Assists the Store Manager in the pricing, stocking, and displaying of merchandise.
• In the absence of the Store Manager, directs and supervises all other store employees and volunteers.
• Performs other related duties assigned by the Store Manager.

Daily assignments will rotate based on staffing and operational needs. An individual in this position must be able to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above.

QUALIFICATIONS and EXPERIENCE
• Employee must have knowledge of basic cashiering and sales practices, as well as basic merchandising principles and supervisory skills
• Employee must have the ability to maintain professional, patient, and courteous communications with a diverse base of customers, donors, clients and other SVdP staff
• Prolonged periods of standing and walking
• Employee must be able to follow instructions and work autonomously on assigned job duties
• Employee must be able to work assigned shifts consistently and reliably, which may include nights and weekends
• Employee must be able to learn and interpret policies relating to the store operation
• Employee must communicate effectively with fellow workers, staff, and customers
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• A valid State driver's license required
• Must have reliable transportation

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
The SVdP Store working environment may contain dust, debris or allergens commonly associated with all manner of pre-owned clothing, furniture and household goods. Certain areas of the SVdP Store are only partially climate controlled.
