Job Description

POSITION TITLE: Controller

REPORTS TO: Superintendent and Chancellor/CFO

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: Finance and HR Staff

HOURS & FLSA STATUS: Full-time, exempt

LOCATION: Grand Rapids, Michigan

The Grand Rapids Catholic Secondary Schools (Catholic Central and West Catholic High Schools) are seeking a Comptroller to lead the finance and human resources functions. This role will ensure financial integrity, effectiveness, and efficiency. The Comptroller provides financial leadership for the schools' operations, non-instructional activities and serves as a strategic partner.

Our ideal candidate will possess:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related degree. MBA or CPA desirable.
• 5+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in an academic institution or school system. At least three years in business/administrative management.
• Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with experience overseeing human resources and legal requirements
• Advanced spreadsheet capabilities and demonstrated ability to work with accounting software and financial management systems a must. Working knowledge of GAAP required.
• Practicing Roman Catholic preferred. Knowledge of the Catholic Church including familiarity with structure, function and institutions. Committed to the mission of GRCSS and Catholic education in general.
• Excellent communication, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated leadership and resourcefulness and a high degree of flexibility
• Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office products and the ability to understand and utilize software programs

Our current Comptroller will be retiring in September 2024. We are starting the recruiting process now to find the right candidate and provide some transition time.
