"Business Manager"OVERVIEW
"Reporting directly to the Pastor, the Business Manager oversees the administrative functions of the Parish, including the financial stewardship, human resources, and daily operations.
The Business Manager is the direct supervisor of many of several lay staff members, who work together to help build a foundation of prayer, study, and Christian community in our Parish from which we can carry Jesus into the world so that He can heal the needy and save souls.
The responsible use of resources and the alignment of the Parish's financial management with our overall mission are important priorities for the Business Manager.
ESSENTIAL POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
Financial:
• Bookkeeping tasks: daily cash flow, parishioner contributions and donations, cash receipts for all forms of income, accounts payable/accounts receivable, year-end tax statements, and capital improvements. Supervise outside bookkeeper.
• Develop and manage the Parish's annual budget for approval by the Pastor, ensure alignment with strategic goals, and appropriately allocate resources to meet both short- term and long-term goals.
• Work with Parish's outside accountant to prepare and communicate financial statements.
• Serve as primary point of contact for all inquiries regarding regular offertory giving as well as one-off philanthropic gifts to the Parish.
Human Resources
• Prepare employee benefits paperwork for the Archdiocesan benefits department, update employee information to the BAS (Benefit Allocation Systems) portal. Maintain all personnel records.
• Prepare bi-monthly payroll, annual workers' compensation audit, and annual pension audit. Ensure the Parish's compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as Archdiocesan and Provincial regulations.
• Oversee the recruiting, hiring, onboarding and offboarding process and annual performance review for Parish employees.
Administrative:
• Work closely with the Pastor on Parish and Archdiocesan fundraising appeals, ensuring that costs are controlled, and all funds are allocated and processed accurately.
• Manage external contractors and vendors for office equipment and IT platforms.
• Work closely with Facilities Manager for maintenance and capital improvements for both Churches and other Parish spaces.
• Supervise lay staff in the daily operations of the Parish, providing supervision, support, and feedback on a regular basis as well as corrective action when necessary.
• Plan and execute volunteer appreciation touches and/or events throughout the year.
• Assist the Pastor on matters when needed.
REQUIRED FAITH-BASED KNOWLEDGE/COMMITMENT
• A practicing Catholic who is seeking to live virtuously.
• Knowledge of the core teachings of the Catholic Faith as handed on through Sacred Scripture, Sacred Tradition, and the Magisterium of the Church.
• An appreciation for the Dominican charism and a commitment to the mission of the Parish.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS
• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, or a related field preferred.
• Recommended minimum of 5 years in a management role; experience in a church or non-profit setting is a plus.
• Ability to work within the complex ecclesial structure of the Catholic Church.
• High degree of professionalism, ability to handle confidential information, promptitude, and a commitment to managing the daily responsibilities of the Parish effectively.
• Ability to be firm while also working collaboratively within diverse groups to build teams, develop and maintain relationships, negotiate decisions, solve complex people-centric
problems, and resolve conflict.
• Excellent language and communication skills. Extremely detail oriented; able to self-edit and self-proofread his/her own work.
• Able to manage repetitive tasks with little or no supervision, to dress appropriately for office and public speaking, to self-ambulate up and down stairs and back and forth by foot between the Parish's two churches (0.5 miles), and to lift up to 25 pounds.
OTHER DETAILS
• This fulltime, exempt position reports directly to the Pastor.
• Compensation for this position is around $85K annually and also includes a generous benefits package.
• This position is estimated to require 40 hours/week of work on an ongoing basis. Work will primarily take place during regular office hours but will occasionally include various evening/weekend parish events and/or meetings.
