Job Description

Mary Help of Christians Catholic Parish in Parkland, Florida has an opening for a Faith Formation Coordinator. The coordinator is a lay ecclesial minister who has the pastor's delegated responsibility and authority to develop and implement a plan for comprehensive and systematic catechesis for all ages. This responsibility may function in collaboration with additional parish and school staff members. The candidate performs all duties and responsibilities in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of the Catholic Archdiocese of Miami.

Essential Functions and Tasks:
• Creates and implements a comprehensive and systematic catechetical plan for children, youth and adults based on the Archdiocese's plan.
• Develops sacramental preparation.
• Works with parents to ensure the support and involvement of the family in catechetical programs.
• Implements catechetical policies and curriculum of the Archdiocese of Miami.
• Directs the parish catechetical programs from adults to children. This includes:
• RCIA and Adult Confirmation.
• Junior High/Youth and Elementary Catechesis.
• Pre-school, family, and home Catechetical Programs.
• Maintains accurate records on student enrollment, attendance and sacramental preparation and submits data to the Office of Catechesis.
• Collaborates with the pastor, parish ministers, principal and appropriate committees and councils to develop catechetical vision and establish catechetical policy.
• Publishes a handbook containing parish programs, sacramental policies, and procedures in accordance with the Archdiocesan guidelines.
• Records/ enforces volunteer completion of Virtus and Fingerprinting requirements of the Archdiocese of Miami's Safe Environment Policy by all catechists and volunteers.
• Maintains confidentiality in accordance with Archdiocesan policies and procedures and applicable laws; Updates records as needed.
• Implements the guidelines for mandated reporting of legal issues as per Archdiocesan policies.
• Recruits and screens candidates for the role of catechist; Ensures that all catechists are certified according to the guidelines of the Archdiocese.
• Assists catechists in selection of teaching aids and lesson planning.
• Provides continued support for catechists by being present during the teaching assignments.
• Consults with catechists to assess their methodological and theological needs to implement appropriate training sessions.
• Provides spiritual formation for catechists and volunteers with such means as retreats and workshops.
• Implements conflict management procedures when appropriate; and maintains flow of reporting and dialoguing with the pastor in a consistent manner.
• Assures adequate supervision of minors during the entire time they are on the parish and school premises for catechetical activities; sets discipline procedures.
• Provides regular evaluation for catechists at all levels and support staff.
• Cooperates with inter-parish planning for the development of regional programs.
• Participate in Office of Catechesis and other archdiocesan meetings as appropriate.
• Participates in the on-going formation opportunities for Faith Formation/Religious Education provided by the Office of Catechesis.

Qualifications:
• Practicing Catholic who fully adheres to and models the Church's teachings in faith and morals.
• Appropriate mental and physical health to accomplish the tasks.
• Be approved by the Office of Catechesis as per Archdiocesan Policy p92.A.
• Bachelor's degree required; A major in Religious Education from an accredited Catholic institution, equivalent theological and ministerial courses, or a related field is a plus.
• Completion of Core Theological Competencies, Ministerial Courses, and archdiocesan safety policies.
• Excellent oral and written English language skills, including clear speaking voice.
• Good Creole and Spanish spoken skills preferred.
• Strong computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, and Power Point.
• Willingness to report and dialogue with the pastor in a continuous manner.
• Sensitivity to observation and identification of out of the norm issues needing to be addressed.
• Must be able to lift and carry, on occasion, bundles of catechetical and program materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to walk and stand for prolonged hours as required by the parish catechetical sessions.
• Must maintain a prayerful life, integrating the challenges of ministry with a grounded sense of discipleship and professionalism.
