Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Children's Ministry Director provides coordination for the parish's implementation of comprehensive ministry efforts to children from 1st through 5th grades. It includes Sacramental Preparation for children aged 7 to 10 who are seeking Baptism, First Reconciliation, and First Holy Communion. This position helps families to foster a love for our Catholic faith and for Jesus, primarily through the evangelization, formation, and empowerment of parents.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Attend staff meetings, ministry team meetings, and educational training workshops.
Coordinates formation programming for 1st - 5th graders and their parents which includes working some evenings and weekends.
Be a resource person to parish staff and parish families on issues related to Children's ministry.
Marketing and communication of Children's ministry activities via social media, website, Flocknote
Recruit, train, and support Children's Ministry volunteers.
Collaborate with staff, volunteers and councils to support the ongoing, long-term strategic visioning of Children's Ministry and the parish.
As a team, review the vision and programming opportunities regularly to address the changing needs of children and their families in accord with the parish mission and vision.
Coordinate and implement the formation of and reception into the church of children aged 7 and older who are seeking baptism.
Coordinate and implement the formation and reception of the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Communion for children in grades 1st - 5th.
Review all curriculums used by the Children's Ministry and ensure they are consistent with Church teaching and age-appropriate pedagogy.
Ensure that diocesan safe environment policies are followed.
Ensure and oversee program registration, attendance, sacramental record keeping, accountability, and other administrative tasks.
Develop an annual budget and operate within the constraints of that budget.
Collaborate with the Children's Ministry Coordinator to develop, plan, and execute special events related to children and families (i.e. community building, service opportunities).
Support Children's Ministry Coordinator regarding Vacation Bible School.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree or suitable certification preferred; knowledge of Catholic teaching, catechesis, and lesson planning.

Language skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence, and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English; ability to develop and facilitate children's programs; ability to read and understand church documents and guidelines.

Computational Skills: Ability to read, prepare, and manage budgets for major events and programs; ability to organize and manage registration databases.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, as well as professionally and pastorally represent Our Lady of Angels in the community. Ability to relate to a variety of people, regardless of age, ethnicity, or socio-economic background; most especially relatable to elementary age children and parents.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office, Google Suite or similar, Website and graphic design expected.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: All Diocesan employees must be cleared adults, according to the Diocese of Dallas' Safe Environment policies.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to transport materials and equipment (up to 25 pounds) to and from various locations. This position requires lifting and moving tables and chairs on a regular basis. The employee is regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Physical Environment: The employee will primarily work in an office. The noise level is usually quiet to moderately loud.

Working Conditions: The employee must schedule office time in order to complete tasks and meet with staff and parishioners. The employee must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the staff and with parents and volunteers. The employee must be able to set priorities, work toward goals and deadlines, and manage multiple tasks. Exercise discernment and maturity, reflecting a Godly spirit; relate well with others of varying personalities. Embrace a strong work ethic, working well with minimal direction.

Other Requirements: The employee must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. The employee must have knowledge of Church structure and culture. Job requires the ability to maintain confidentiality, develop curriculum, and maintain documentation.
