Job Description

PAYROLL SUPERVISOR/MANAGER
Full-time, Onsite, Irondale (Birmingham), AL. Not remote-eligible.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:
As the Payroll Supervisor, you will manage & process all facets of the organizations' payroll and payroll systems including the bi-weekly multi-state payroll for EWTN, EWTN News, EWTN Religious Catalogue, and EWTN Publishing. You will oversee and supervise the daily activities and workflow of the Payroll Specialist, and support the Financial Managers, Director of Accounting, and Chief Financial Officer with various payroll and other projects.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the payroll department, including the processing of bi-weekly payroll processing
• Ensure employee salaries, benefits, deductions, and taxes are processed timely and accurately, in accordance with EWTN policy and federal, state, and local laws
• Oversee the payroll system, including data entry, updating of employee information, and maintenance of electronic time tracking records
• Supervise and train the Payroll Specialist; ensuring they are organized and deadlines are met.
• Review current payroll practices and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency.
• Ensure all tax issues (federal, state, local, unemployment insurance, etc.) are managed timely and accurately.
• Monitor and research new legislation and regulatory rulings that impact payroll.
• Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws including wage garnishments and other deductions.
• Investigate, resolve, and manage payroll-related issues and inquiries from employees and managers.
• Establish procedures, ensuring accuracy and organization of employee payroll records and reports retained in the payroll network drives.
• Record all payroll-related journal entries in the general ledger and reconcile monthly.
• Facilitate audits by providing records and documentation to external auditors.
• Facilitate payroll orientation of new hires and maintain setup for earnings, deductions, garnishments, and taxes.
• Oversee the maintenance of time clocks.
• Work with Human Resources in processing new hires, benefits, leaves of absences, terminations, 403(b) plan, etc. and answer related payroll questions.

ABOUT YOU:
• You have 3 to 5 years of payroll administration experience including strong knowledge of payroll laws and regulations.
• You are experienced with multi-state payroll processing and reporting.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
• Some of your dominant soft skills include excellent organizational and communication skills, strong analytical and problem-solving time management skills, strong commitment to excellent customer service, high degree of accuracy & attention to detail.
• You possess excellent supervisory and management skills
• You have proven ability to set work priorities, adhere to deadlines, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll data and records.
• You have a proven track record of working independently and managing multiple priorities.
• Your hours are flexible to complete job responsibilities.
• You hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

PREFERRED:
• You have demonstrated knowledge of the Catholic faith and EWTN's mission.
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics Great Plains.
• CPP or FPC certification.
