Job Description

Immaculate Heart of Mary parish (www.ihmparish.com), located within the City of Grand Rapids, is a vibrant Catholic community celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. We are a parish with a rich tradition of musical excellence and are seeking a Director or Liturgical Music to lead our music ministry program according to Catholic teaching and best practices.

The parish sits on 10 acres in the Southeast side of the city, and contains the church, parish office and community rooms, school campus, gym / athletic fields and rectory. The parish community is comprised of approximately 1,000 families and over 300 K-8 students.
The Director of Liturgical Music is responsible for overseeing the parish music program as the primary accompanist and choir director, fostering a sense of community and active participation in the Mass through song.

Multiple choirs are ready to support your efforts, including Children's, Chamber (Adult), Resurrection (Funeral) and Handbell (3 octave Malmark), as well as a team of skilled and trained cantors. The Adult Choir enjoys learning new music, and loves being challenged musically through the use of a combination of traditional and contemporary selections.

Utilizing your skills in establishing relationships within the parish and school communities will assist in the continued growth and success of the music program. Your efforts will be supported by a significant music budget to purchase new music, hire professional instrumentalists, maintain quality programing and continually develop our volunteers/staff.

The worship environment includes a recently remodeled choir space, a Steinway concert grand piano, newer Allen electric organ, extensive library of intermediate/advanced choral and bell music and a Soundcraft Si Performer mixer with quality audio recording and sound system.
