Job Description

Position: Director of Liturgy (Full-time, Salaried, Benefits Eligible)

Are you ready to inspire hearts through the power of music and prayer? The Church of St. Joseph invites passionate candidates to apply for the position of Director of Liturgy. This full-time role offers a unique opportunity to lead our vibrant community in worship, weaving together music and liturgy with joy and reverence. St. Joseph is a parish of over 1250 families in a growing community. Waconia is a beautiful city of about 15,000 people along highway 5 with a vibrant downtown of locally owned shops in addition to many chain stores and restaurants, all alongside one of the largest lakes in the Metro area.

Responsibilities:
• Lead Music at Liturgies: Oversee all musical aspects of parish liturgies, including three weekend Masses, Holy Days, weddings, funerals, school Masses, senior housing Masses, and special seasonal celebrations and other liturgies as directed.
• Ensemble Leadership: Direct the parish choir and coordinate parish cantors, instrumentalists, lectors, greeters, sacristans, and servers.
• Musical Artistry: Provide spirited accompaniment on piano, or guitar, and/or organ for congregational singing. Prepare preludes, postludes, and incidental music to elevate the liturgical experience.
• Guided by Faith: Study scriptural and liturgical texts to select music that enriches each feast and season.
• Cultivate Sacred Song: Expand and enrich the repertoire of congregational hymns through the parish's hymnal and other resources. Assist with wedding selections and take direction for funerals.
• Stewardship of Music: Maintain and curate the choral library, procuring new music as needed.
• Collaborative Ministry: Serve as a key member of the parish staff and liturgy team, nurturing the participation of young people in our worship events, scheduling liturgy ministers, lead/assist in training of ministers.
• Technical Excellence: Manage instruments, sound systems, and the setup of liturgical spaces with care and attention to detail.
• Financial Oversight: Effectively manage the music budget and resources, adhering to diocesan and government standards.

Qualifications:
• Passion and Expertise: Degree in music or related fields (e.g., music education, liturgical music) with a demonstrated ability to select and direct choral music across genres.
• Spiritual Leadership: Understanding of Catholic liturgical principles and a commitment to nurturing St. Joseph's worship traditions.
• Organizational Prowess: Ability to manage the physical and mental demands of the role, demonstrating time management, organizational skills, and responsive interpersonal communication.
• Confidentiality: Uphold discretion and sensitivity in pastorally sensitive situations.
