Job Description
Position OverviewSt. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Ridgefield Park, NJ, is seeking a passionate and dynamic Director of Faith Formation to lead and coordinate the religious education programs for children, youth, and adults. The program has under 200-registered students. The Director of Faith Formation will oversee the planning, development, and execution of a comprehensive program that fosters spiritual growth, promotes Catholic teachings, and supports the parish's mission. This individual will work closely with clergy, staff, and parish families to ensure that all age groups have opportunities to deepen their faith.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee the parish's religious education programs for children, youth, and adults, ensuring alignment with the teachings of the Catholic Church.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate catechetical programs that engage participants in a lifelong journey of faith.
• Coordinate sacramental preparation programs for First Penance, First Communion, and Confirmation.
• Recruit, train, and support volunteers, catechists, and other team members involved in faith formation activities.
• Create and maintain schedules, calendars, and communication materials for the religious education programs, which run from August to May.
• Foster a welcoming and supportive environment for all families, ensuring that each person is met where they are on their faith journey and accompanied by the parish.
• Collaborate with the pastor to integrate faith formation into the broader mission and activities of the parish.
• Assist with the preparation of the parish's annual budget for the Faith Formation department.
• Ensure that all programs and activities are in compliance with diocesan policies and guidelines.
Qualifications
• Practicing Catholic with a strong understanding of Catholic theology, doctrine, and traditions.
• Bachelor's degree or certificate in theology, religious studies, or a related field.
• Experience in faith formation or religious education is preferred.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to coordinate and inspire teams.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, staff, volunteers, and parish families.
• Creative and dynamic approach to engaging diverse age groups in faith formation.
• Knowledge of current trends in Catholic education and faith formation is helpful.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters related to the role.
• Spanish would be helpful, but not a requirement.
Work Schedule
This is a part-time position. Salary is negotiable. Some evening and weekend hours are required to accommodate program schedules and parish events. Religious education program is held on Sunday mornings. Program runs from August to May.
