Job Description
POSITION: Director of Faith Formation and EvangelizationREPORTS TO: Pastor (and is supported by the parish staff)
STATUS: 40 hours/week
POSITION SUMMARY: Director of grades 1-10 Faith Formation and Evangelization who has a heart for sharing the "Good News" and helping others grow as disciples of Jesus Christ and His Church. This individual will build and administer a total catechetical and evangelization ministry program for St. Paul Mosinee; form and prepare students and their parents for the reception of the Sacraments and assist the parish community in developing a solid foundation for authentic relationship with Jesus Christ, Christian living, and evangelization.
This position has plenty of room for creativity and ingenuity as our vibrant parish continues to grow. Faith formation is a lifetime endeavor and as such this individual will work with the pastor to create more effective ways to evangelize and minister to people of all ages inside and outside the parish-grade school, middle school, high school, young adult, families, and the elderly. First and foremost, as a parish family we are about giving God right worship and praise in love. This individual will help the pastor form a family of disciples where all members know they belong at St. Paul's Catholic Church, their home.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES:
Faith Formation (grades 1-10)
o Oversee the Faith Formation Program
o Recruit, train, support, and evaluate volunteer catechists in the Faith Formation program, grades 1-10
o Encourage and promote the spiritual development of the catechists, students and volunteers of the program.
o Oversee Sacramental prep for parents and children to receive Reconciliation, 1st Eucharist, and Confirmation
o Communicate regularly with parents of Faith Formation students and school parents of children in sacramental programs.
o Coordinate retreats for Confirmation students.
o Prepare and oversee the budget for Faith Formation
Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA)
o Oversee the OCIA Program
o Recruit, train, support, and evaluate volunteer team members.
o Encourage and promote the spiritual development of the OCIA team and adult students.
o Coordinate Sacramental prep and reception for adult students to receive Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation
Safe Environment Coordinator
o Keep records of Diocesan Safe Environment requirements including background checks, permission forms and volunteer driver forms. Submit required reports to Diocesan Safe Environment Office.
o Ensure that all volunteers follow safe environment guidelines
Evangelization Initiatives
o Create and coordinate new avenues and opportunities for discipleship for families, young adults, families, and adults.
o Promote youth evangelization event opportunities in the parish, deanery, and the Diocese. (coordinate with youth minister)
o Weekly Mosinee Public High School Bible Study (if possible)
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• A person with a heart for evangelization, youth ministry, and faith formation
• A committed prayer life, both personally and within a parish community
• Bachelor's degree in theology or equivalent preferred, but not necessary
• Experience working in Catholic education, catechesis, and/or youth ministry
• Knowledgeable of Sacred Scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and Catholic teaching
• Ability to organize, prioritize, manage multiple priorities, and work with minimal supervision
• Excellent communication, collaboration, leadership and mentoring skills
• Familiarity and conformity with the guidelines and policies of the Diocese of La Crosse
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience in public speaking preferred
• Lives in full sacramental communion with the Catholic Church and fidelity to Church teaching
