Job Description

Coordinator of Middle and High School Youth Ministry

The Coordinator of Middle and High School Youth Ministry oversees faith formation opportunities for our parish youth in grades 6 through 12, providing opportunities to know, love, and serve the Lord, his Church, and our local parish community, guided by our parish discipleship pathway. High school youth ministry currently includes immediate preparation for our 9th graders desiring the sacrament of Confirmation. The Coordinator will be supervised and mentored by the Director of Faith Formation and supported by our Administrative Assistant, Virtus Coordinator, and extended parish staff. As with all Faith Formation personnel, the Coordinator is expected to be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, pursuing a consistent prayer life, seeking ongoing personal and professional formation, and participating in our parish's liturgical and communal life.

Program Elements (in light of our Discipleship Pathway):

Belong - Create an atmosphere where participants are seen, known, and cherished by their peers and adult volunteers. Building community through easy-entry events such as game nights, movie nights, Donut Sundays, parish "backyard bash," etc.

Believe - Challenge our teens to move beyond weekly church attendance and make a deeper commitment of their lives to Jesus, opening up for them the opportunities to encounter him daily through Prayer, Scripture, the sacraments, and the communal life of the Church.

Become - Provide systematic and organic faith formation opportunities, founded primarily on Scripture, the Catechism, and personal witness, but also utilizing the great wealth of content and experiences now available to the Church through study programs, video series, podcasts, regional events, and retreats such as Mount2000, Franciscan University Youth Conference and Damascus CYSC.

Beyond - Encourage participants to respond to the needs of those in their immediate spheres of influence and their parish community through service opportunities on campus, in Ellicott City, and beyond.

Administrative Responsibilities:

- Determine an annual calendar of events for the middle and high school youth ministry program, including but not limited to faith formation opportunities, game nights, retreats, fundraisers, etc.
- Determine a calendar of formation opportunities for those 9th graders seeking preparation for the sacrament of Confirmation.
- Propose and maintain an annual budget supporting these efforts, reporting expenses and requesting any reimbursements needed throughout the year.
- Consistent and thorough email and/or text communication with program participants and parents through our parish platform, myOLPH, in accordance with archdiocesan Virtus policies
- Recruit and train adult volunteers to support youth ministry and Confirmation programs, ensuring that volunteers always conduct themselves according to archdiocesan Virtus policies.
- Regular collaboration with the parish Faith Formation Team, ensuring the smooth transition of participants from middle school formation into our high school and young adult formation programs
- Weekly: In-person participation at Tuesday morning staff gatherings.
- Monthly: Attendance at virtual meetings with the Archdiocese's Office of Family, Youth, and Young Adult Ministry (OFYYAM)
- Annual: Attendance at Archdiocesan Bosco Day and Pastoral Staff Day for parish staff and clergy. Mandatory renewal of employee Virtus training. First Aid/CPR renewal optional.

Education and Professional Skills:

- Bachelor's Degree or higher in Catholic Theology, Catechetics, or comparable field
- Certification or previous experience in youth ministry
- Strong public speaking skills, emphasizing a personal and kerygmatic presentation of the Gospel message
- Experience with retreat planning and execution
- Ability to connect and communicate well with teens and adults alike
- Familiarity with Microsoft 360 office programs and G-Suite
- Proficiency in e-mail, calendar, and cloud-based drives

Resources for Vision:
