Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Youth Ministry Coordinator provides coordination and support for the parish's implementation of comprehensive youth ministry efforts to young people from 6th through 12th grades.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Attend regular staff meetings, ministry team meetings, and continuing education opportunities
Support the Director of Youth Ministry with formation programming which includes working some evenings and weekends
Assist with the communication to staff about youth ministry activities
Be a resource person to parish staff on issues related to youth and youth ministry
Support the implementation of a systematic and intentional plan for adolescent catechesis that utilizes a creative variety of formats, settings and timeframes
Support the Director of Youth Ministry with preparing youth in grades 6th-12th for the sacraments of baptism, reconciliation, Eucharist, and Confirmation
Assist with providing appropriate services and programs for parents of youth
Assist with the registration process for all youth ministry activities, including annual registrations, retreats, service activities
Manage the safe environment compliance of youth ministry volunteers
Manage attendance for all youth ministry events including weekly formation and sacrament preparation
Support the implementation of social events and local service activities
Assist with relational ministry efforts with adult volunteers, for youth
With the Communications Coordinator, manage the marketing and communication of YM ministry activities via social media, YM website, text messages
Provide support for the ongoing, long-term strategic visioning of youth ministry
As a youth ministry team member, review the vision and programming opportunities regularly to address the changing needs of youth and their families in accord with the parish mission and vision
Assist with fostering the involvement of youth in the life of the parish, including participation in parish ministries and events
Assist with the recruitment, training, and supporting of youth ministry volunteers

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, ability or physical demands required. Education and/or Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in ministry, paid or volunteer. Bachelor's degree in theology, pastoral ministry or a related field, is preferred, but not required. Knowledge of Catholic teaching is required.

Language skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficiency in composing reports, correspondence, and letters and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers in English, ability to develop and facilitate youth programs; ability to read and understand church documents and guidelines.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions, and deal with a variety of concrete variables.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Microsoft Office

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Be a cleared adult according to the Diocese of Dallas' Safe Environment policies.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to transport materials and equipment (up to 25 pounds) to and from various locations. The employee is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, use hands in repetitive motion tasks, handle objects, talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Physical Environment: The employee will work in an office or a cubicle. The noise level is usually quiet. The space is wheelchair accessible. The employee will also work at off-site locations for various ministry events.

Working Conditions: The employee must work with the Director of Youth Ministry to set a work schedule. The employee must be able to work cooperatively with other members of the staff and with youth leaders and adult volunteers. The employee must be able to set priorities, work toward goals and deadlines, and manage multiple priorities.

Other Requirements: The employee must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church. The employee must have knowledge of Church structure and culture. The employee must have knowledge of current youth culture and current trends and issues within those cultures. Requires the ability to maintain confidentiality and maintain documentation.
