Are you ready to turn your passion for Christ into a mission that transforms lives? At St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, we believe in inspiring hearts, deepening faith, and building a vibrant community rooted in the Gospel. As our new Youth Ministry Coordinator, you'll have the opportunity to lead with faith, innovate with purpose, and make a lasting impact on our parish youth and their families.
Who We Are
We are a large and growing parish in West Des Moines, Iowa, a suburb of the city of Des Moines which has the fastest growing metropolitan area in the Midwest and a member of the Diocese of Des Moines which in Easter 2024 boasted the largest amount of new converts per capita of any other Diocese in the nation. As the largest parish in the state of Iowa, we welcome nearly 20 new families each month with well over 10,000 currently registered parishioners. We seek to be a center of formation for the laity, empowering them through prayer and apostolate to bring the Gospel to the world.
As the Youth Ministry Coordinator, you will be an integral part of our mission to engage, empower, and evangelize our middle and high school youth, helping them to encounter Christ and grow as lifelong disciples.
Why This Role Matters
Our mission is simple: to bring people closer to Christ. In this role, you'll be at the heart of that mission, creating opportunities for young people to encounter Jesus and form authentic, lasting relationships with Him and His Church. As part of this mission, we are seeking to partner with NET Ministries to host a Discipleship Team, a group of young adult missionaries dedicated to relational ministry and evangelization among our youth. Whether you're working with the NET team, coordinating retreats, mentoring teens, or leading service projects, your work will transform lives and inspire the next generation of disciples.
What You'll Do
A typical day in this role is anything but ordinary. You'll have the opportunity to:
• Inspire and Lead - Plan and implement dynamic faith formation programs and events that ignite a passion for Christ and foster lifelong discipleship among middle and high school youth.
• Build Relationships - Develop meaningful connections with young people, empowering them to grow in their relationship with Christ and discover their role in the Church.
• Collaborate and Mentor - Work closely with a dedicated team of volunteers and oversee the NET Discipleship Team (pending partnership), providing guidance and mentorship as they carry out their mission of relational ministry.
• Create Transformative Experiences - Coordinate retreats, service opportunities, and small group discussions that inspire youth to live out their faith.
• Engage in Parish Life - Collaborate with other ministries and parish staff to ensure youth ministry is seamlessly integrated into the life of the parish.
What You'll Need
We're seeking a mission-driven individual who embodies the values of our Catholic faith and brings creativity, energy, and vision to this role. You'll be a great fit if you:
• Have a heart for evangelization and a strong foundation in Catholic teaching (Bachelor's degree in theology, catechetics, or related field preferred).
• Are passionate about accompanying young people in their faith journeys.
• Have experience working in youth ministry or a related field; familiarity with organizations like FOCUS, NET Ministries, LifeTeen, or similar is a plus.
• Possess excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with youth and their families.
• Are comfortable recruiting, training, and leading volunteers to serve effectively in ministry.
What You'll Love About This Role
• A Team Approach - Solo ministry can often lead to burnout. When you join St. Francis, you become part of a team of seven who meet regularly and support one another in their work.
• Intentionality - From our core values to weekly check-ins to quarterly planning sessions, we seek to do our work with thoughtfulness. We have a well-established vision and a process in place to help you strategize your efforts.
• Lifelong Growth - We see work as a means of sanctification and are committed to investing in our team members, providing them the support they need to excel both personally and professionally.
• The Sacraments - Daily Mass and Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament make it easy to build a prayer routine around a schedule that is convenient for you.
• Competitive pay, cost-shared health benefits, retirement matching, and more!
Join Us in This Mission
At St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, we're more than a team-we're a family united by faith and a shared mission to transform lives through Christ. If you're ready to bring your gifts, passion, and faith to this role, we can't wait to hear from you!
