POSITION SUMMARYThe Youth Minister will guide Our Lady of Fatima Family of Parishes' high school and junior high youth through comprehensive Catholic youth ministry, including Confirmation formation, with the mission being to bring more souls to Christ through the formation of missionary disciples. This position reports to the Executive Director of Pastoral Services. S/he will serve as a collaborative member of the parish team.
REGION
Archdiocese of Cincinnati, NW-6 region including: St. Patrick (Troy), St. Mary/St. Boniface (Piqua), Transfiguration (West Milton), St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus (Covington). This area of Miami County, Ohio has charming communities and entertaining and convenient downtown environments. A growing young adult community is present, as well. There are safe and high-quality schools within the county, including those within our family of parishes: St. Patrick Catholic School (preK-8) and Piqua Catholic School (preK-8).
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate junior high and high school faith formation including: service/CCD/Confirmation preparation/retreat/camp/special event/programs.
- Prepare youth for reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation.
- Reach out to youth and families, particularly those on the peripheries, to invite them to a personal encounter with Christ and to walk with them on their faith journey.
- Develop youth leadership.
- Recruit, train, form, engage and supervise volunteers/core team and ensure "SafeParish" standards. Communicate with and minister to parents.
- Assist in preparing and maintaining the youth ministry budget and special fundraising.
- Consult and collaborate with the supervisor in reviewing materials and designing programs.
- Develop and maintain a master calendar of high school and junior high youth ministry events.
- Work in close collaboration with parish religious education and other parish ministries.
- Attend staff and planning meetings, faith formation opportunities and team prayer days.
- Maintain a presence in our partnered schools, at camps and church activities where our youth are in attendance.
- Collaborate with Communication staff to effectively promote youth ministry engagements through print/digital media.
- Implement the eight components of Comprehensive Catholic Youth Ministry as defined by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
- Maintain and exemplify a personal relationship with Christ through regular prayer, Mass and other opportunities.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE | SKILLS | ABILITIES
- Faithful, passionate Catholic disciple and role model with a solid understanding of the teachings and theology of the Roman Catholic Church.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Two years+ of experience in youth ministry work or equivalent.
- Ability to interact with a wide range of audience members including youth, parents, staff, volunteers and parishioners.
- Strong organizational, time management and creative solution seeking skills.
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information appropriately.
- Strong verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills.
- Extensive experience with basic computer programming such as: Microsoft Office, Google products, Canva, etc.
- Ability to appropriately advocate for the needs of the youth of the parish.
- Experience with and willingness to learn audio/visual.
- Understanding of and adherence to all aspects of Archdiocesan SafeParish standards.
- A desire to serve and to work in a team setting with a willingness to learn.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position will require evenings and/or weekend work and, sometimes, an unpredictable schedule. S/he will visit multiple church and school locations/offices. Employees of Our Lady of Fatima Family of Parishes will have knowledge of the Catholic faith, a willingness to work for a Catholic, faith-based agency and adhere to the policies of the Catholic Church. Employees will not publicly oppose the teachings of the Catholic faith, nor publicly advocate for any position in conflict with Catholic teaching, or the specific positions of the Archdiocese of Cincinnati or the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. This requirement includes any public speech, demonstration or writing including the use of social media or other digital technologies.
COMPENSATION
Compensation is commensurate with the candidate's experience.
