Director of Religious Education

Job Description

Assumption BVM Parish, located at 300 State Road, West Grove PA (one hour by car outside the city of Philadelphia in beautiful Chester County) is looking for a new Director of Religious Education. We have over 200 children in our program and 2,200 registered families in the parish. The DRE is responsible for the coordination and administration of the parish religious education program and sacramental preparation for elementary age children and teenagers who have not received all of the Sacraments of Initiation. This is a full-time position, ten months of the year (mid-August to mid-June) for a highly motivated individual who feels a calling to teach and form young people in the Catholic faith.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Organize, schedule and oversee the parish's religious education program for grades 1 through 8.
• Prepare, schedule and oversee sacramental programs for students and their parents.
• Provide for the instruction of high school students who have not been confirmed.
• Prepare unbaptized children seven years and older for Baptism.
• Lead bi-monthly meetings with parents and children who opt for home based religious education.
• Recruit, train and supervise volunteer catechists and aides.
• Assure Safe Environment training and documentation of volunteers.
• Administer annual registration of students.
• Prepare annual budget.
• Order textbooks, teaching materials and resources for the program.
• Make sure that our program complies with archdiocesan standards for religious education and sacramental preparation.
• Attend archdiocesan meetings/training related to position.
• Participate in ongoing formation and educational opportunities to keep current on trends in catechetical ministry.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
• Capable administrator (tracking attendance, registration, completing reports, etc.).
• Confident supervisor of volunteers and children.
• Excellent communications skills, including in person, on-line and by virtual meetings.
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience of Catholic doctrine and practice.
• Competent in use of technological means for advancing religious education.
• Good teaching ability.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:
• BA/BS or equivalent experience.
• Has fulfilled or is in process of fulfilling Archdiocese of Philadelphia Religious Certification requirements.
• Minimum 3 years of Catholic catechist/teaching experience.

COMPENSATION
Salary will be commensurate with experience and education, in line with the salary recommendations by the ad hoc Pastors Committee of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for Coordinators of Religious Education. Medical and pension benefits are available.
