Job Description

Background: CHS is an all-girls Catholic college preparatory high school in Manhattan serving nearly 400 young women, most of whom represent economically disadvantaged populations. Our students come from all five New York City boroughs, as well as Long Island and Westchester, and represent 59 nationalities. The student body is also racially diverse: 54% Hispanic, 27% Black, 11% multiracial, 5% white, and 3% Asian. 75% of our students are first or second-generation Americans. 37% of our students will be the first in their families to graduate from college, and 14% of our students will be the first in their families to graduate from high school. 74% of Cathedral students are eligible for free New York City lunch, 47% are from single-parent households, and 34% receive public assistance. All student tuition is partly subsidized.

About the Position: Cathedral High School is seeking an exceptional school administrator to provide leadership and oversight for the academic programs under the direction of the Principal. The Assistant
Principal will play a critical role in building a joyful school culture that is academically rigorous and authentically Catholic.

Duties include establishing and overseeing a mentoring program for new teachers; observing new and existing faculty; and coaching teachers and department chairs with the goal of enhancing
content and methods of instruction.

The Assistant Principal will oversee the accreditation and curriculum planning processes and will support faculty in achieving excellence in pedagogical practices that are consistent with a Catholic understanding of the human person.

The Assistant Principal oversees the Administrative Assistant for Academics.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum
- Assists with and provides oversight to all aspects of the curriculum, including development, design, implementation, and review processes, within the framework of a Catholic liberal arts education.
- Ensures that curriculum meets school objectives and is aligned within and across departments.
- Coordinates the annual review and collection of faculty syllabi and classroom procedures.
- Coordinates and assists department chairs with the administration and analysis of test results.
- Oversees the submission of the Advanced Placement curriculum for yearly College Board approval.
- Together with the Principal, manages the adoption and replacement of textbooks, instructional materials, and educational software on a regular cycle ensuring that the faculty are provided with the necessary
instructional resources within the limits of the academic budget.
- In collaboration with the Principal, supervises the development and implementation of standards across the curriculum.
- Directs academic department chairs to ensure adherence to state, local, and school requirements.
- Supervises special programs including Medical Gateways, Business Academy, and STEM Academy.
- Schedules and supervises PSATs, mid-term, finals, and Regents exams.

Academic Records and Student Course Scheduling
- Oversees the grading process, input and posting of grades, and report card distribution.
- Meets with students, parents, and teachers regarding grades and grade changes.
- Maintains and oversees the academic probation process.
- Coordinates the preparation of course description information and builds the master schedule.
- Conducts the annual registration process for each academic year, explains course registration procedures to students, and determines schedules for all students.
- Makes final decisions on student requests for drops and adds.
- Works with the Director of Admissions and Enrollment Management to coordinate the admission of all new and transfer students.
- Collaborates with school personnel in the development of the annual school calendar.

Faculty and School Culture
- Assists the Principal in all aspects of faculty management: hiring, orientation, assignment, professional development, evaluation through formal and informal observations, and personnel decisions.
- Assist faculty members with the development of instructional skills and strategies within their classrooms.
- In collaboration with the Principal, provides guidance and direction to department chairs, facilitates regular meetings with them, and reviews departmental programs and goals.
- Assists with the orientation and development of new teachers.
- Coordinates with the Principal on union and employee handbook issues.
- Prepares honors assemblies and the academic portion of the Baccalaureate Mass and Commencement.
- Communicates about academic matters with other administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and students.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:
- Personal commitment to the mission of Cathedral High School and a love and enthusiasm for Catholic teachings, education, and culture
- Master's Degree (in Education preferred)
- School Building Leadership Certification (preferred)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to multi-task and manage time well
- Strong observation skills with the ability to listen and appropriately assess complex situations; and to provide thoughtful, fair and appropriate recommendations and solutions
- The ability to motivate and inspire confidence in faculty, parents, and students
- Personable, inspiring, and outgoing, comfortable supporting and engaging families and students
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality and private nature of such information with the utmost good faith, especially as it pertains to student, family, and other proprietary and protected information
- Proficient in Redikker Admin Plus or willingness to learn.

The salary range is $80,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience.
