Job Description

Position Opening: Humanities Instructor
The Summit Academy is an independent Catholic school for students in grades 6-12.
We are seeking a Latin Instructor for the 2025-26 academic school year.

A Classical Education Seeks Understanding and Elevates Culture
As an institution committed to providing a Catholic classical education, we seek candidates who possess a deep understanding of the Liberal Arts and a belief that the ultimate objective of education is to form students who come to appreciate how learning reveals the beauty and order of creation and informs their calling to know and serve Christ.
At the core, a school is a community, and leaders are tasked with fostering a healthy learning culture. When we make hiring decisions, we are most interested in bringing in men and women who are interested in becoming members of a community that is warm, prioritizes wisdom, and develops young people to pursue what is true, good, and beautiful.

Curriculum
The Summit student will explore history and literature in a four-year sequence of courses that will ensure a rich exposure and thorough knowledge of the canon and history of Western Civilization. Students will see their skills of analysis sharpened as they work through texts. At the end of the program, students should learn to think, research, and write with clarity, cohesion, and conviction. This means that they should learn to ask questions about texts, artifacts, and the sequence of recorded events as well as ideas and claims of authority. In other words, students should begin to engage with the evidence that scholars employ and learn to discern meaning.

Position Summary:
We are seeking a full-time Latin Instructor to lead students through a rich and rigorous curriculum in the classical language tradition. The ideal candidate will bring both linguistic expertise and a deep understanding of classical literature, guiding students from the introductory stages of Latin through advanced literary and historical texts.

Students at The Summit begin Latin in middle school using Hans rberg's Lingua Latina: Familia Romana over a three-year period. This curriculum employs the natural method, enabling students to develop an intuitive grasp of the language while gaining insight into Roman domestic life.
In upper school, the Latin program shifts to emphasize grammatical precision and political history:
• Latin I & II: Completion of Latin grammar and initial reading of Caesar's De Bello Gallico
• Latin III: Study of Cicero's political speeches, focusing on rhetoric and Republican Rome
• Latin IV: Exploration of Virgil's Aeneid and Latin verse
• Latin V (elective): Survey of Latin across time-antique, medieval, ecclesiastical, and modern

Our faculty serve not only as teachers, but mentors. They are tasked with modeling an active faith as they guide students through coursework as well as an array of activities including athletics, various outdoor programs and retreats, field trips, and service projects.

While not required, experience in coaching or a background playing scholastic or collegiate athletics is also preferred. We are currently looking to hire coaches for men's rugby, men's wrestling, and women's field hockey and would love to see faculty candidates with interest or experience in any of these sports.

Duties and Responsibilities
• Inspire a love of learning in students through teaching four preps, an elective prep, and serving as a mentor/role model.
• Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instruction using various teaching methods.
• Work with students to encourage and facilitate each individual's growth.
• Prepare lesson plans following curriculum guidelines and requirements.
• Teach the assigned curriculum using different instructional methods.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities by integrating competencies and goals into the lesson plans.
• Correct assignments, administer tests, observe and evaluate students' progress.
• Meet with parents to discuss student progress and challenges.
• Advise students by developing meaningful relationships with them and supporting their academic and personal growth.
• Participate in faculty and professional meetings.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree required
• Master's degree preferred and reflected in compensation
• Mastery of subject matters to be taught, as demonstrated by references and education. Applicants should be prepared to present a sample lesson as part of the interview process.
• Two years of teaching experience preferred, with exceptions granted for outstanding candidates who demonstrate a record of effective leadership in a relevant field of work.
• The applicant must also possess a love of teaching, a passion for mentoring, and a desire to continue in their own learning.
• Applicants should be sure to note coaching or athletic involvement (playing or coaching), and any personal interests that may enrich the life of the school (e.g., outdoor activities, nature studies, or the arts).

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, and/or CV to:
