Job Description

CLOSED CAPTIONING TECHNICIAN
Full-time, onsite in Irondale (Birmingham), AL. Not remote-eligible.

HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:
As a family-oriented and faith-based organization, we value the importance of providing accessible content to viewers of all backgrounds. In this role, you will play a vital part in ensuring that our television programs reach a wider audience through accurate and synchronized captions.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
• Utilize special closed captioning equipment and captioning system software to format text and accurately place captions in synchronization with speech, music, and sound effects.
• Process captions and embed text onto the program disk for television airing, as well as export to various formats for DVD and video streaming.
• Review broadcast dates to ensure timely captioning, allowing other departments to complete their work before airtime and DVD distribution.
• Notify the supervisor of any concerns related to tape, graphics, episodes, or transcripts.
• Receive live show captions, edit as necessary, and export to various formats.
• Proofread transcripts as needed.

ABOUT YOU:
• You have a minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a comparable work environment.
• You possess the ability to operate basic video and captioning equipment.
• You have strong computer software skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• You have highly organized work habits with sharp visual and auditory focus, great attention to detail, and follow-through.
• You possess expertise in proper grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, and spelling.
• You hold an Associate's Degree Communications, Broadcasting or have equivalent experience
• You demonstrate an understanding of Catholic Faith terminology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Previous experience in closed captioning for broadcast/cable TV.
