Job Description

Bishop Ireton High School is seeking a full-time, comprehensive School Counselor to join our counseling team for the 2025-2026 school year at our campus in Alexandria, Virginia. School counselors aim to assist students in making the most of their high school experience through academic advising, college readiness and career development, short-term personal/social/emotional counseling, and engaging with the school community beyond the counseling office.

Qualifications:
• Candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who will promote the Catholic mission of the school.
• Possess a master's degree in School Counseling or related field.
• Possess or work toward obtaining a Pupil Personnel Services License in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Knowledge of counseling techniques and intervention strategies.
• Commitment to upholding ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Core Responsibilities:
• Collaborate with the team within the Office of Counseling Services to develop and provide a comprehensive school counseling program to serve the needs of all students in the areas of personal, social, emotional, academic, and college/career development.
• Advise students and families on four-year educational planning and course selection.
• Assist students with the college/career search process.
• Write individualized letters of recommendation for students applying to college, summer programs, and scholarships.
• Collect, analyze, and use data to develop, implement, and evaluate student needs and the school counseling program.
• Work with teachers and administrators to assist in strategizing approaches to maximize student development.
• Upholds and exemplifies high standards of professionalism in fair treatment of all community members.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
