CHELSEA ACADEMYJOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Dean of Students/Athletic Director
Job Purpose Statement: This blended position will combine the function of "Dean of Students" and "Athletic Director". As such, the incumbent's function is for the purpose/s of overall student management including non-curricular activities, discipline and he or she will also develop, manage, and supervise the school's athletic programs.
In the function as Dean of Students he or she will be responsible for ensuring that Chelsea Academy establishes and maintains a positive culture of behavior and learning, supporting teachers in behavior management and student discipline. He or she will oversee the efforts of the Student Life Coordinator and ultimately be responsible for action required due to disciplinary infractions, as well as overseeing the planning and execution of all student activities that are not academic in nature. He or she will monitor attendance infractions of students, communicate with parents regarding attendance matters, and enact appropriate disciplinary measures for students with chronic attendance problems.
In the function of Athletic Director he or she will be responsible for seasonal Chelsea sports teams, including the procurement of coaches, scheduling of games, scheduling of officials, and the securing of facilities for practices and games.
Specific duties relating to the function of Dean of Students:
Establish supportive relationships between home and school
Create and sustain programs for students that teach Chelsea's vision, mission, culture, and school expectations
Establish and implement school culture initiatives
Ensure that all students and families know and abide by the school rules and norms
Administer appropriate discipline to all students as outlined by Chelsea's Student/Parent Handbook
Keep accurate student discipline records including the documentation of all parent/guardian conferences, suspensions, and phone calls relating to student behavior
Support teachers in ensuring they set high expectations and manage classes in accordance with Chelsea Academy's expectations
Coach teachers to implement behavior management plans and improve instructional practice especially as it relates to issues of discipline and school culture
Be present and highly visible during school hours steadfastly ensuring a positive school environment
Model the school's core values and set the standard for professional behavior
Collaborate with other members of the school's leadership team to create and sustain programs for students and families that recognize and celebrate achievement and progress
Create internal systems necessary to monitor and support student character development
Coordinate and conduct appropriate parent/teacher conferences related to attendance, discipline, and school involvement
Communicate regularly with students, parents, and teachers regarding attendance and discipline matters
Identify, plan, and implement strategies to address barriers to learning including attendance concerns, behavior issues, and social adjustment
Coordinate, document, and assign personnel to supervise weekday and Saturday detentions.
Fully embrace Chelsea's mission, vision, and values and promote them to students, staff, faculty, parents, and members of the outside community
Maintain positive, constructive, and professional relationships with colleagues, students, and school families
Assist the Headmaster in the preparation reports related to attendance and discipline
Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by the Headmaster
Specific duties relating to the function of Athletic Director:
Develop, manage, and supervise developmentally appropriate athletic programs in line with the school's overall educational mission and goals
Represent Chelsea Academy in all league and athletic associations and attend all meetings with those organizations.
Schedule all middle school, junior varsity, and varsity contests for the school's interscholastic teams.
Ensure that all coaching positions are filled with competent, vetted, and properly trained coaches.
Supervise, develop, and evaluate all coaches.
Oversee the distribution, collection, storage, upkeep, and replacement of all school athletic uniforms and equipment.
Ensure that athletic fields and facilities are prepared for hosting athletic contests and practices.
Communicate with students and parents regarding appropriate expectations for each level of competition.
Ensure that all athletic equipment, facilities, fields, and courts are safe for daily use.
Maintain accurate records of athletic statistics and accomplishments.
Organize coaches' meetings at the beginning of each season to review expectations, guidelines, and rules of play.
Schedule transportation for all away athletic contests.
Secure qualified officials for each home contest.
Update athletic calendar on school website with schedules and locations of all interscholastic games.
Oversee planning of season specific sports awards functions.
Perform other tasks, duties, and responsibilities as assigned by the Headmaster
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND ATTRIBUTES
Practicing Catholic with Bachelor's Degree or higher with at least 5 years of successful teaching, administrative, or supervisory experience with exceptional results
Deep belief in Chelsea's vision and mission
Exceptional instructional and classroom management expertise and the ability to articulate effective strategies in support of the professional growth of others
Extraordinary interpersonal skills and desire to work as a team player with teachers and staff
Ability to plan strategically and maintain a focus on results
Ability to partner with parents and community members
Meticulous organizational ability in order to set priorities, organize workload, handle multiple responsibilities, and meet deadlines
Positive attitude and maturity sufficient for a demanding position and longer school days
Ability to develop critical thinking skills in students and to guide teachers to do the same
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with all stakeholders and to guide teachers to do the same
Ability to demonstrate loving care for students and their futures, yet also a firm personality and belief in a high level of structure

REPORTS TO: Headmaster
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 12 month position. Evenings and weekends are sometimes required.
