Media Education Society - Board Member Volunteer PositionAbout the Media Education Society
The Media Education Society is a 501(c)(3) public charity rooted in Catholic Social Teaching, dedicated to promoting media literacy education through the lens of the common good. We believe media literacy is essential for faith formation, informed citizenship, personal agency, and community resilience. Our apostolic movement empowers individuals and communities with the skills to discern, navigate, and create media that upholds their Judeo-Christian values.
Position Summary
We are seeking mission-aligned, values-driven volunteer Board Members to join our governing board. Board Members play a vital role in strategic planning, organizational governance, and mission advancement, helping to ensure our programs and operations remain faithful to our mission to help people understand, engage, and produce media through the lenses of the common good.
Key Responsibilities
Governance & Strategy
• Attend and participate in quarterly virtual board meetings.
• Provide oversight for the organization's policies, priorities, and financial practices.
• Contribute to the development of the long-term vision for the organization.
Mission Stewardship
• Uphold the organization's mission and values rooted in Catholic Social Teaching.
• Act as an ambassador and advocate for faith-based media literacy in your network.
Resource Development
• Help identify and cultivate relationships with potential donors, collaborators, and media education advocates.
• Make a personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to you (no minimum is required, but full board participation in fundraising is expected).
Who You Are
• A practicing Catholic or individual deeply aligned with Judeo-Christian values.
• A professional, educator, parent, or community leader passionate about media literacy, or faith formation.
• A servant leader with integrity and dedication to advancing the common good.
• Experienced in one or more of the following areas is preferred, but not required:
o Education or curriculum development
o Theology or ministry
o Law or nonprofit governance
o Communications, journalism, or digital media
o Fundraising or grant writing
o Marketing or public relations

Board Member Commitment
Engagement - Participate in quarterly virtual board meetings (remote access) to provide strategic guidance and organizational oversight.
Mission Advocacy - Serve as an active ambassador for the Media Education Society-promoting our mission, values, and programs within your networks and spheres of influence.
Fundraising Support - Contribute to the financial health of the organization by supporting fundraising efforts, identifying potential donors or partners, and making a personally meaningful gift annually.
