Job Description: Director of Music Ministry atSt. Joan of Arc Catholic Church
Job Summary:
The Director of Music Ministry will inspire musical participation by the congregation during Roman Catholic liturgical worship through the appropriate selection of music and the proper training and direction of choir, cantors, and instrumentalists.
Part time position requiring up to 20 hours each week. More hours may be required during certain Liturgical seasons.
Reporting Relationships:
The Director of Music Ministry reports directly to the Pastor. Also, the Director will maintain regular working relationships with St Joan staff and monthly with the Liturgy and Spiritual Life Commission.
Responsibilities:
Ensure that the musical presentation at Mass and other events is of a sufficient quality to inspire robust participation by the congregation and enhances their worship experience.
Duties:
Create music plans and cantor schedules for all Saturday, 5:00 PM Masses and Sunday morning, 10:00 AM Masses.
Lead the choir and congregation in music for all Saturday, 5:00 PM Masses and Sunday morning, 10:00 AM Masses.
Transpose music as necessary for cantors, choir, instrumentalists and congregation to maximize sing ability.
Communicate all needed information, including schedules, song lists, etc. to the choir members on a regular basis through email, phone calls and text messaging.
Plan and direct choir rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 6:30 PM.
Rehearse/warm-up with choir for one hour before each Mass,
Hold rehearsals for cantors and instrumentalists as needed.
Put up song numbers for congregation before weekend Masses and remove them before Spanish Mass at noon on Sundays.
Follow building usage procedures.
Plan Bilingual Masses and rehearse with choir and Coro for special events.
Assure all volunteers under you are in compliance with all Diocesan and parish volunteer requirements.
Funerals and Weddings - meet with family/couple if requested, help arrange music as needed, secure cantor (and choir, if requested and available).
Arrange the purchase of all printed music as needed and obtain licensing agreements as needed.
Communicate with choir members regularly about rehearsals, Mass, and upcoming choir events.
Measures of Performance:
The choir members, cantors and instrumentalists (all volunteers) are fully trained, engaged and motivated to deliver a high quality musical experience at each Mass.
Feedback from the congregation is predominantly positive in regards to quality of the music and positive spiritual impact it has on the members of the congregation.
The number of members of the choir are, at a minimum, retained, but, more importantly, grows in the future due to the positive impact they have on the members of the parish and their enhancement of the worship experience at Mass.
