Job Description

Overview

Holy Family Classical School seeks a dedicated, mission-driven CGS Catechist who is committed to forming Christian disciples through a classical, Catholic education. This is a part-time position, two days a week. Additional sessions may be available through Holy Family Cathedral.

The catechist will actively participate in building a Christ-centered classroom that fosters a love for truth, goodness, beauty, and unity in alignment with the school's mission. As a ministerial role, this position involves modeling Catholic virtues and integrating faith across all subject areas. Founded by Saint Katharine Drexel over 125 years ago, Holy Family Classical School provides an exceptional Catholic and classical education in the spirit of our saintly foundress.

The Catechist's role is to prepare the environment and to give selected presentations from scripture and liturgy that "call forth" the child's response rather than "pour in" information. The adult reflects with the child on the questions generated by the presentations with the materials offered to the child to aid the child's reflection.

Job Responsibilities and Catechist Characteristics include;

To go deeper into the Christian message through the knowledge of the biblical and liturgical sources and of ongoing living tradition of the church, including the theological, social and ecumenical movements which enliven the church today;
Prepare an environment and maintain order in that environment (the Atrium) so that it fosters concentration, silence and contemplation in both the child and adult.
Prepare the materials oneself as much as possible while collaborating with others in areas that are beyond one's abilities.
Possess an attitude marked by humility before the capacities of the child, to be able to establish a right rapport with the child, that is to say, respecting the personality of the child, and waiting for the child to reveal himself/herself.
Communicate with parents regularly regarding student's progress and parish updates regarding CGS.
Maintain accurate student records on a weekly basis.
Develop and maintain a curated environment, including making decisions regarding use of space, use of materials, ordering supplies, and Atrium layout and design.

Collaborate with evening/weekend Catechists to provide consistency and continuity between all parish and school sessions.
Maintain professionalism and sensitivity in regards to student confidentiality.
