Job Description

Position Summary
The Mission of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington's is to spread the light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the world. In the faithful pursuit of this mission, the archdiocese is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning. The Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning will develop and maintain educational excellence in the Catholic Schools in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington. This role will help to create a collaborative culture of continuous improvement that sustains and energizes a system of schools committed to a Catholic, standards-based community of educational excellence, supported by academic, instructional assessment, professional development and leadership standards. This role will report to the Secretary/Superintendent of Catholic Schools.

Duties & Responsibilities
• Interface with all members of the Catholic Schools Office around the area of educational excellence.
• Support the work of the Superintendent and Associate Superintendent regarding the area of academic excellence and by serving on the Catholic Schools Office leadership team.
• Support the work of the Superintendent and Associate Superintendent regarding personnel needs as applicable.
• Support local school leadership through mentoring and serving as point of contact for varied school level needs including budget analysis and staffing needs.
• Collaborate with the Office of Human Resource to support school leadership in the area of teacher hiring and supervision.
• Supervise director positions in the Catholic Schools office to maintain and support the vision of Catholic Schools through their content specific roles.
• Lead Retention and Recruitment efforts in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington.
• Develop and Maintain relationships with local and virtual Universities to support teacher certification coursework and Master degree and Doctoral programs for educators.
• Promote the integration of Catholic Identity across all subject areas in instruction.
• Monitor and revise all subject content standards (except religion) in grades PreK-8 and support similar work in high schools and effectively disseminate standards.
• Support Principals and serve as a point of contact for all other affiliations and networking opportunities focused on the areas of curriculum, instruction and assessment.
• Provide quality professional development opportunities for all members of our school communities.
• Serve as a lead point of contact to leverage private industry partnerships to support the work of the Catholic Schools Office.
• Provide activities for diocesan-wide and regional meetings, Principal's meetings, CSO staff and school board meetings and retreats in Professional Learning Community formats on curriculum instruction.
• Make decisions on budget allocation for all projects.
• Provide principals and pastors with "Friday Update" articles weekly concerning Teaching and Learning.
• Attend/present at principal meetings on Teaching and Learning content.
• Facilitate and oversee the academic MSDE-approved credited coursework developed and implemented via the CSO Learning Management System.
• Conduct training to implement CSO goals (What are the current CSO goals for this year?)
• Oversee school improvement initiatives, using data to identify archdiocesan trends and specific needs of individual schools.
• Form a steering committee made up of school staff, principal and instruction coaches and CSO staff.
• Oversee school improvement and professional development plans of identified schools and watch schools.
• Develop, implement, and manage archdiocesan-wide professional development opportunities.

• Human Resource areas of hiring, growth and evaluation, and termination

Education and Experience
• Master's degree in educational leadership or a related field
• Experience in Catholic School and/or Archdiocesan leadership
• Demonstrated experience in leading and developing others
• Experience in curriculum development
• Catholic identity training
• Experience in professional development training
• Budgeting experience
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Work Environment
• This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and scanners.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
• Regular full-time employee (40 hours/week); occasional travel to Archdiocesan schools required. Occasional evening work may be required.
