NEWMAN CATHOLIC STUDENT CENTER

POSITION: Development Associate
CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, Full Time, Hourly with benefits
REPORTS TO: Director of Development

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Development Associate assists the Director of Development with the creation and execution of the Newman Catholic Student Center's development plan which includes a communications and marketing plan. These plans directly support donor stewardship and cultivation with the goal of increasing our donor base and fundraising dollars. The overall purpose of this position is to educate, increase awareness, and build community support from alumni, parents, and other friends of the Center. This position includes administrative tasks to maintain and utilize the Center's donor database and reports to the Director of Development.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Donor Outreach and Communications
• With the Director of Development, prepares an annual development calendar, including plans for development activities, appeals, and events focused on creating awareness of the mission and funding needs of the Newman Center
• Develops and maintains knowledge of the funding priorities of the Newman Center; communicates the stories and impact of all ministry program areas to promote the organization to donors and potential donors.
• Donor outreach by making at least 15 phone calls per week and writing 10 personal notes each week to current donors, alumni or other target list. Document these efforts in eTapestry.
• Alumni specific outreach: assists with creation of targeted campaigns for alumni to include but not limited to; personal visits, phone calls, and targeted mailing and social media outreach in conjunction with the Director of Development.
• Assists with the design, printing, and distribution of cost-effective marketing and communications materials in a variety of media to promote awareness about and encourage financial support of the Center's mission including solicitations for monthly giving, Friends in Faith, and special collections and campaigns. This also includes creating content for social media, weekly mass email, and website to support all ministry areas.
• Create a database of media contacts and social media outlets for the Center to create awareness of Newman Center activities and programs including creating press releases, social media content, and utilizing free media outlets.
• Assists with website staff in website development, content management and troubleshooting website issues.
• Maintain photo and video files for ongoing use; create, edit, and upload photos and videos for use by staff, student leadership, and FOCUS missionaries.
• Coordinate with staff and student leadership to ensure all Newman Center development events, programs, and activities have communications coverage (photographer, videographer)
• Track online analytics and support internal and external data reporting needs.
Administrative Duties

• Processes all gifts received in a timely manner; creates necessary reports to the Director of Development and Director of Operations.
• Utilizes a thorough working knowledge of the eTapestry database system and all its functions to enhance donor retention and stewardship of gifts.
• Processes all donor pledges in a timely manner and monitors pledges for follow up and reminders.
• Processes all gift acknowledgements as per established office procedures.
• Manages all data entry to eTapestry database for all alumni, current donors, and potential donors in an effort to keep database information current. This includes creating new constituent accounts, updating contact information and input of account notes as needed.
• Writes database queries and creates reports to extrapolate information to aid in the development process of current and prospective donors.
• Maintains an accurate and easy-to-administer filing system for all paper records.
• Assists Director of Operations with monthly reconciliation of Quick Books with eTapestry as needed.
• Help prepare mailing lists and mailings for solicitation, recognition, invitation and other donor communication.
• Assists the Director of Development with other duties as requested.

Event Coordination
• Assists with all development events to include but not be limited to, annual donor recognition events, alumni outreach events, Family Weekend, and the spring fundraiser. Assists with other ministry events as needed.
• Serves as co-chairperson of the Newman Night Out committee
• Helps to ensure events and activities are completed within budget guidelines.
• Assists in creating marketing materials both digital and print for all development events utilizing a variety of media depending on the event with cost-effectiveness as a priority.
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
• Practicing Catholic who sees campus ministry development and communications work as an essential ministry.
• Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing or development from an accredited institution or equivalent experience
• Self-starter who can organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks concurrently.
• Excellent communication skills, written and verbal with the ability to learn and master new communication formats quickly.
• Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external contacts.
• Proficiency with web-based design applications, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe InDesign, Canva and website development applications
